Ok ... then to update your mailing address your only option is to mail in a form 8822 and make sure you put in a forwarding address with the post office.
The Federal identification number is not fully accepted for one of my investment accounts. It lopps off the last number. It says that the number is invalid.
I can only email my return.
This is crazy. Been 2 months YES MY INFO.IS ENTERED CORRECT BUT NOTHING. SAYS INFO WRONG. IRS IS SPECIAL
According to this IRS update as of April 16th:
The IRS is now opening mail within normal timeframes. The IRS has also made significant progress in processing prior year returns. As of April 9, 2021, we had 1.5 million individual tax returns received prior to 2021 in the processing pipeline. Including current year returns, as of April 9, 2021, we had 16.2 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Advance Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.
How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We are processing returns received over the summer and fall in 2020 due to the extended July 15, 2020 tax filing due date. While the majority of 2019 refund returns have been processed, in some cases, we are processing tax returns that were mailed with a payment even though payment associated with these returns have been processed by the IRS. However, we are rerouting tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened in the order received. As the return is processed, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues depends on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.
What you should do: If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
E-filing your 2020 tax return: To e-file you will need to enter your AGI from your tax year 2019 tax return. If your 2019 return has not yet been processed, you may enter $ 0 (zero) as your prior year Adjusted Gross Income. If you used the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool last year to register for an Economic Impact Payment, enter “$1” as your prior year AGI. See Claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit if you aren’t required to file a tax return.
For weeks now the status check app has said it was being processed and a date would be provided when available. It's been 50 days since it was electrically filed. Now it won't even get me to that screen. Now it says my information is incorrect when I try to log on. I have triple checked. It is the same info I've been using. If there are codes for explanation, they're not showing on my end. I have not received any mail or email correspondence from them.
Unfortunately, the Where's My Refund site has been erratic and unreliable. But if TT told you that the IRS Accepted your efiling for processing, then the government has it. (Approved is a later step, but TT receives no further updates once a return is Accepted.) Lots of other folks are still waiting, so please continue to be patient. Also see:
I filed my return back on April 19th. Got all 3 emails. It was accepted. Waited and waited, kept telling me for weeks it was still processing, now when i go on the website it asks me to confirm my filing date, status, and whether i did it electronically or paper. But when I go on the app, i get the same message over and over that i have entered invalid information
WTF, can’t the IRS get anything right??
I took a screenshot from the info gathered frm the intuit look up ur return status. So I know the IRS got it and approved it. Now how do i get them to finally relinquish my return back to me??
I e-filed my return
Did you get confirmation from Turbo Tax that your e-file was accepted? you may double check your status here @Deswann2012.
Mine is also doing this today I put my information in correctly and my income tax has been showing accepted and I've had no issue checking it till today!
@Nettie92 Sometimes as your tax return is being processed and is moving from one "stage" of processing to another the IRS site will not show any information. Give it a day or two and check the IRS site again.
I hope this helps anyone in a situation like my own, Googling exactly what's going on with our returns not being visible. I do not have a solution, but this is my situation:
I filed with TurboTax. My State and Federal were received. The 'Where's my Refund' portal began working, and would offer updates normally. My state went through within two weeks, my federal sat in the pool for 3 weeks. I was able to track and view my refund for those three weeks. I got a letter stating I needed to 'verify my identity', I did so. After verifying, the WMR tool showed the refund as being 'processed' instead of 'yada yada processing delays'. After a week of 'being processed', I am now unable to check on the status of the return. The WMR tool states my information is incorrect. I know without a doubt this is not true. I called the IRS Refund Check service with their toll-free number, and put in the information. It was accepted as correct information and I was told the refund was being processed. TurboTax states the federal refund has been accepted. I have not been given a date.
I know the IRS states the system updates every day, but I've noticed it does major updates on Wednesdays and Fridays. I will wait until Wednesday evening and check again.
If I don't reply to this message, it means I likely got distracted by getting my refund. This would likely be good news for you, reader. I'll check in with updates if I get them.
