If you used direct deposit for your return last year, the information may have automatically transferred into your return for this year. .
To change or update the banking information that is shown on screen, follow these steps:
Make sure that the box stating "I want my refund deposited into this account" is unchecked
Scroll down and click Continue
The next screen will say, "Let's get your bank account info"
Enter the account information you want to use for your direct deposit
If you have already filed your return, then it is too late to change the direct deposit information. Keep reading below for some advice if that is your situation.
Once your return has been accepted (or mailed), it's too late to change your bank account for direct deposit.
If you haven't filed yet, you can still change your bank account info for direct deposit.
If the info you provided is for a closed or invalid account, the government will mail you a refund check.
If the info you entered is someone else's account, don't worry – some banks won't deposit tax refunds into accounts where names don't match up. The best way for you to track your federal refund is to call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
If your recently-filed return is in pending status, wait until it's either accepted or rejected.

If you've already filed and your return has been accepted (or mailed), it's too late to change your bank account for direct deposit. If you have not filed yet you can click here to find the directions to update your direct deposit.
If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected. If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it. The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return. Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.
