Missing refund

On April 9 I received an Email from Intuit telling me my federal return had been accepted. Three months later I have not received my refund. The IRS and Intuit appear to have no information on the status of my return. What is going on?

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20a of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

On the IRS site you are also offered the use of an app called IRS2Go

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901548-why-do-some-refunds-take-longer-than-others

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

Missing refund

Can Intuit verify that my return was in fact transmitted to the IRS and received by them? Despite the email three months ago saying this happened, I'm concerned that Intuit cannot verify it.

Missing refund

Verify that the federal tax return has been Accepted by the IRS using this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
If Accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS, TurboTax receives no further information from the IRS concerning the tax return,  any tax refund or tax payment.

When using the IRS website to check the refund status you Must enter Exactly the information requested; the Social Security number, the Filing Status and whole dollar amount of the federal tax refund as shown on the federal tax return.

Download your tax return to verify that you are using the exact same tax data on the IRS refund website as is shown on the federal return.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If the federal tax return has been accepted by the IRS and you cannot get any status from the IRS refund website then contact the IRS.

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions
If over 21 days since being Accepted by the IRS and the tax refund is still Processing you can call the IRS and speak with an IRS agent concerning your tax refund.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.

since it's been 90 days since acceptance and the IRS website has no info, try contacting the IRS tax advocate in your state or call the IRS

Missing refund

When I check my e-file status it tells me, "We don't have a record of a return for the Social Security Number and ZIP code combination or Tracking Number you provided." Yet I got an email in April informing me that my e-filed return had been accepted. The possibility that the email misled me is beginning to anger me and I'd like to speak to someone rather that running pointless circles in this discussion format.

Missing refund

I spoke with someone at the IRS who checked and said they never received my return. I've re-submitted it, three months late.

So, big thanks to Intuit for that April 9 email telling me the IRS had received my return!

Thanks also to the drones and/or bots who took time to copy and paste irrelevant boilerplate non-answers to my original question. It was no substitute for an actual customer service process, but since I'm never going to use Intuit or TurboTax again there's no point in worrying about it. Lesson learned!

Do you still have the Accepted email?  Maybe it was just the first email confirming your efile was submitted.  Then there should be a second email saying if it was Accepted or Rejected.

Or maybe it was an email for someone else that entered their email address wrong and got yours by mistake.  That happens.
