What if I have already filed this return?

Please send a newly-signed copy to the address shown on the top of your notice.

When you mail in a SIGNED copy of the return attach a copy of the email showing it was accepted to make sure they don't hit you with a failure to file penalty.

Paying the TurboTax account fees does not e-file a tax return.

You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "Transmit my returns now".

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on 2018

What is the status of the e-filed federal tax return?  If the status is anything other than Accepted then the tax return was never e-filed.  If you did not print and mail the federal tax return then the return was never filed.

A 2018 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.

Print, sign, date and mail the tax return to the IRS.  Include with the mailed return any forms W-2 and 1099 which have taxes withheld.  Go to this IRS website for mailing addresses - https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment

IRS Notice CP80

I received one of these CP80 notices from the IRS a couple days ago.  After spending some time on the phone I was advised that while the IRS credited last years tax payment that was submitted along with my filing via Turbotax they received my filing?  So, despite Turbotax's email saying "Your federal tax return was accepted by the IRS" and despite paying Turbotax to file my taxes, my taxes were never filed.

I thought I could simply call Turbotax and have my taxes resubmitted  and we'd be done with it but navigating through support here is a nightmare.  So here I am type a message in the hopes someone responds and addresses this.    I could have filed my taxes myself with less hassle.

I've used TT many times.  If I don't get support ASAP and some kind of compensation for what I paid for and didn't receive I'll be going elsewhere.

Ok... if the return had the payment information for the IRS to debit your account AND the account was debited then the IRS did get the return because that is the ONLY way the IRS could get that information.  If the return was not accepted then the payment would not could not have happened.   Bottom line is the IRS lost your return and all you need to do is mail them a signed copy of the return as requested in the notice... it CANNOT be resent by TT since the IRS would not accept any prior year return and besides you must ink sign it.  It happens more than you would expect.  Send a copy of the email acceptance with the return.  And there will be no compensation ... the program did what you paid for ... it completed a return you can mail in and it did efile it even if the IRS lost it.

TurboTax cannot send your tax return to the IRS.  Sounds like the IRS received your tax return since the payment to the IRS was made but there systems do not show receiving the actual tax return.  So now they want you to provide a paper copy.  See this quite often.

You only send to the IRS the exact same federal tax return as was sent originally.  This would be a signed and dated Form 1040 plus any other forms and schedules included with the tax return.  These would be those which have an Attachment Sequence Number located in the upper right corner of the form and/or schedule.  DO NOT send any worksheets or forms which are indicated as for your information only.
