Thank you for your comments.  It is unfortunate that things can fall through the cracks as was my case.  However a simple solution would be to enhance the "IRS where's my refund" by simply adding additional information when they report that the return is "being processed".  Rather that using a lot of detail in the response, they could use codes as to the cause or department working the return - especially when there is an open issue related to the return.  These codes could then could then have a cross reference that a filer could view to determine the cause for the delay or extended processing.

OMG! I am soooo feel your frustration!! Your story is mine to a T. I e-filed in April it was accepted on April 30 an my status is the EXACT SAME,! This is such BS, if they are going to keep, hold , fix or whatever the hell they are doing with our money, they can at LEAST, CALL US , SEND A LETTER... SOMETHING. ITS ALMOST THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST AND STILL NO REFUND, NO STIMULUS, NOTHING UGHH. GOOD LUCK TO YOU 🙏🤦

I am also in same situation. I filed in May deadline and thru Turbo Tax and was told accepted. Now middle of August and IRS says still processing, Does anyone have a clue to what the problem is? Now I get an email from Turbo Tax stating they are fixing to debit my account for their services. Which I feel is B.S. because I don't feel their services have been completed.

TurboTax tried billing my Credit Karma account also 🤨 I told them, " You'll get ya money when I get my refund,"As was agreed upon" 😂

Credit Karma flipped the charges back 😬😂

In the future, if you don't like the terms of the contract don't sign it.  All DIY tax return programs offer the same processing service thru a third party processing bank for an extra fee and they all have the same "delayed payment" clause in them.

If you qualify to use one of the IRS FREE FILE options on the IRS website here :  https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free

If you cannot use FREE FILE then always pay the fees upfront.  Shop around to find a better price ... the downloaded version is usually cheaper especially if you buy it thru a reputable third party reseller later in the tax season.

Can I assume that the IRS never received my mail-in amended because I'm in Tx and I mailed it on March 3, turbo tax still shows Feb 5th.  No links help, the IRS isn't replying to help emails and no one on the phone is able to see anything.  I am sure this is the case but I haven't received anything.   What in the world is going on?  !!

Mailed in  Amended returns are currently taking 6 months or more to process AFTER your original return has been processed  AND  any further corrections the IRS was making automatically ( like for the unemployment exclusion)  only then will they even look at your amended returns ... eventually once they open the amended return and enter it into the system for processing you will be able to track your return's progress here :    https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return

I filed mine on 5-20-21 and was accepted the next day. Today is 8-18-21 and I still have not received my refund.  The site says still processing.

The IRS is seriously behind in processing 2020 tax returns.  This is due to many factors, such as the pandemic, completing processing of millions of 2019 tax returns, stimulus payments, unemployment compensation exclusion tax refunds., changes in the tax code by Congress in the middle of the 2020 tax season and the like.

Millions of taxpayers have not yet received there federal tax refunds.

Go to this IRS website for operational status - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

The IRS is opening mail within normal timeframes and all paper and electronic individual returns received prior to April 2021 have been processed if the return had no errors or did not require further review. As of August 6, 2021, we had 12.7 million unprocessed individual returns. Unprocessed individual returns include tax year 2020 returns such as those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund and in some cases this work could take 90 to 120 days. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

What you should do: In most instances, no further action is needed but you may check Where’s my refund or you can view your account. If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
