IRS accepted return but not showing up on my transcript, or on Where's my Refund

I filed my taxes on 3/2 and got confirmation that the same day that they were accepted by the IRS.   That said, WMR tool still gives me no information other than saying I must have entered my info. incorrectly. When I access my account on the IRS site, it shows my last return filed was 2019.

We changed our filing status from Married Jointly to Married Separately, not sure if that has anything to do with the delay.

IRS accepted return but not showing up on my transcript, or on Where's my Refund

The IRS usually processes refunds in 21 days.  If the "Where's My Refund?"  is showing 2019, you are looking at the wrong account.

Try the IRS "Where's My Refund?" tool.  You will see three separate boxes to enter your filing status, refund amount and Social Security number. When you finish entering this information, click on the "Submit" button on the page to see the status of your refund.

IRS accepted return but not showing up on my transcript, or on Where's my Refund

Gotta love the IRS. And whose brilliant idea was is to roll out a wave of stimulus payments during tax season??? I made more than the allowed income for stimulus in 2019. Well, since then, I’ve lost my job, found another job making way less money......and here is the kick in the teeth, I’ve filed my taxes for 2020 and have yet to receive my refund (return accepted, refund still not approved). So with my luck, the IRS and it’s infinite wisdom will use my 2019 return again. The IRS can’t even pat their head and rub their stomach at the same time, and the government decided to approve the stimulus now? Like i said.....gotta love it.

If your 2020 tax return adjusted gross income indicates a lower income and now eligible for the maximum stimulus amounts and you have not already received that full amount, the difference will be added to your 2020 tax refund as a Recovery Rebate Credit.

Further, if you are not issued the third stimulus because your 2020 tax return has not been processed, then once it is processed and if it makes you now eligible for a higher payment it will be sent to you.

Here is a link with more information on the stimulus payments.

IRS accepted return but not showing up on my transcript, or on Where's my Refund

Thank you, I am definitely looking at the correct account.   To clarify- WMR is not showing anything other than a message that I must have entered my information incorrectly, which is not the case.  When I log in to my IRS account,  under the "latest" return it shows 2019, and indicates that I have not filed for 2020.   I understand it takes time to process, but shouldn't WMR at least show its being processed? It appears they have NO record at all that I filed.

Don't worry. This could mean the IRS's website hasn't updated since you filed your return. If you get the message "We cannot provide any information about your refund", that doesn't mean something's wrong.  Please see this FAQ  for more information regarding the  Where's my refund message.

IRS accepted return but not showing up on my transcript, or on Where's my Refund

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.   Many refunds are taking longer during the pandemic.  The IRS is backlogged —-they are still trying to process millions of 2019 returns; they received millions of e-filed on the day they opened for 2020 returns, and now they are burdened with sending out another round of stimulus checks.

Some delays are resulting from incorrect amounts that folks entered for stimulus checks they received.   Many people have been confused by the recovery rebate credit and completed it incorrectly.  The IRS may delay your refund while they cross-check to see what you received.  Some refunds are delayed because of the tax law changes that went into effect recently.   If your return has unemployment or the premium tax credit on it, that may be delaying it.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 34of your 2020 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901548-why-do-some-refunds-take-longer-than-others

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

Some tax returns take longer to process than others for many reasons, including when a return:

  • Includes errors
  • Is incomplete
  • Is affected by identity theft or fraud
  • Includes a claim filed for an Earned Income Tax Credit or an Additional Child Tax Credit. See Q&A below.
  • Includes a Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation PDFwhich could take up to 14 weeks to process
  • Needs further review in general.

Where’s My Refund? will give you a personalized date after we process your return and approve your refund.

You can also call the Taxpayer Advocate Service toll-free at 1-877-777-4778, or fill out Form 911, Request for Taxpayer Advocate Service Assistance. The Taxpayer Advocate Service is an independent organization within the IRS and is your voice at the IRS

IRS accepted return but not showing up on my transcript, or on Where's my Refund

To find out where your refund is, first check your e-file status. If it's been accepted, you can begin to track your refund at the IRS Where's My Refund? site. You will need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund to check on your status.
