So I received the same letter, not knowing the problem with TurboTax import from ADP.   I called TT support and asked how I speak to an audit agent (I purchased the service).  They gave me a number [phone number removed]) which goes to a 3rd party agency that has a full mailbox and cannot receive messages.  Needless to say, i'm not very satisified with my purchase right now.

Turbotax  doesn't guarantee any imported information ... it is up to the user to verify what was imported into the program correctly before you file.  And if you are married then the program did ask you to verify that the W-2 forms were applied to the correct spouse ... user failure to correct the error of both W-2 forms being applied to the same spouse is not a program error.   This is the warning screen you should have seen :

After e-filing with TurboTax I too received a letter from the IRS - "The Forms W-2 submitted with your tax return, are insufficient to support the amount you claimed for excess SST/RRTA." I called TurboTax for assistance and, like another user that has already posted here, I was given a useless IRS phone number and told good luck. This is NOT what I was lead to believe would happen if there was an IRS issue with TurboTax. According to the extra protection I purchased from TurboTax, this is what I was supposed to get:

"You get:

  • One-on-one audit guidance from an experienced tax professional;
  • Year-round answers to your audit questions; and
  • Assistance with what to expect and how to prepare for the audit."

I have not received any guidance, answers, or assistance whatsoever with my IRS issue. If I use TurboTax again, which is a big if, hell will freeze over before I pay for any extra "protection." I spent over $200 to be given a 30-second Google Search worth of help! Unacceptable!

One of the reasons this can happen is if you assign both your and your spouse's W-2 forms to only one of you. Or, you might have made a data entry errors when keying in the W-2 forms. Can you check to see if you did that?
