TurboTax only supports a limited number of city/local/municipal tax returns.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for supported city/local/municipal returns supported - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/city-tax-returns-turbotax-sta...
TurboTax only helps with a few city or local taxes. For most of them you are on your own. Better check to see if you also owe for 2021.
I received a letter from the CCA Division of Taxation which shows 2020 and 2021 are delinquent.
The link does not work however I viewed in the community that "TurboTax Ohio state software supports all CCA and RITA returns, close to 300 cities and municipalities in all." And my city is one of the cities. So I don't know why my information was not sent to the city similar to how it was sent to federal and state.
Did you see it says all RITA returns must be printed and mailed in that link even if you efiled Ohio?
That link works for me. Try it again. It says..........
TurboTax Ohio state software supports all CCA and RITA returns, close to 300 cities and municipalities in all. Visit each agency's website for a complete listing of CCA member communities and the RITA list. RITA returns must be printed and mailed, even if your Ohio return is e-filed.
Yes I see the link thank you.
But what I am saying is while using the software to file my federal and state Turbo tax did not prompt me to file for the city like it does with federal and state
That stuff is a part of the Ohio State section....and you have to make sure you start thru the local taxes section within the state software.
But @Hal_Al is the local Ohio software expert, if he is here in the Forum today sometime.
He can suggest/tell you the best way to move forward to complete those unfinished local taxes at this juncture.
@clarissa_wht said "Turbotax (TT) did not prompt me to file for the city like it does with federal and state".
Yep. Not everybody in Ohio has to do a municipal return. And about half, of those that do, cannot use TT to do it. So, you are suppose to know whether you need one or not. The same goes for the Ohio School District income tax.
TurboTax (TT) does not automatically prepare a city return, you must initiate it. At the screen, in the Ohio program, titled
"A few things before we wrap up your state taxes"
scroll down to Ohio City taxes.
Or, later
"Your 2021 Ohio Taxes are ready for us to check"
-Click Other situations
-Scroll down to Ohio City taxes.
TT cannot e-file a CCA or RITA return. It must be printed and mailed. If you did prepare a CCA form, the Ohio "Filing Insturctions", that TT prepared, would tell you that you have to print and mail the city return.
Thank you so much for your response. I have just a few more questions.
Is this something that we must file every year? Because I didn't know anything until I got a letter and it says my 2020 and 2021 CCA taxes are deliquent. And why only about half the folks have to complete this portion? And why must we initiate it wouldn't it be easier if TT inform us to complete city like it does with the Federal and State? And is there a way I can go in and complete that part because the TT system does not give me the option at all (I've been using the free online version).
Q. Is this something that we must file every year?
A. Yes.
Q. Why only about half the folks have to complete this portion?
A. The other half doesn't live in a city or village with an income tax. People who work in a city with a tax (but don't live in one) are subject to city income tax withholding for the work city, but they do not have to file a city return.
Q. And why must we initiate it wouldn't it be easier if TT inform us to complete city like it does with the Federal and State?
A. No, they would cause more confusion to those who don't have to file.
Q. And is there a way I can go in and complete that part because the TT system does not give me the option at all (I've been using the free online version).
A. I don't use the online version, so I don't know for sure. But, I think there's pretty much a complete shut down after Oct 17. See https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/missed-october-17-deadline/L2...
You can complete the forms at the CCA web site. Some people say it's easier than using TurboTax.
