I haven't received my refund, its been over 10 weeks, I've tried tracking it through the IRS, but it can't give me any information. What do I do now?

TurboTax says that my refund was accepted on January 30, 2020. I still have not received my tax refund. It's been 3 months! Can someone please advise? None of the previous responses are helpful.

I am in the same boat as @usascott2000.  I had to mail in my spouse and my's tax returns (married filed separate).  I mailed them along with our state taxes in late February/early March.  I have received my state refund; my spouse hasn't received their state refund yet and doesn't look like it's even started being processed.  Both of our federal taxes get the same result - it hasn't even been "processed."  I just want to know if I should re-submit.

The IRS is not processing paper returns right now due to COVID-19. When they resume normal operations, they will process paper returns in the order in which they were received. Please do not resubmit your return; this will only confuse the IRS and potentially result in unnecessary IRS letters. Regarding your spouse's state refund,  please click here to be brought to a directory of state contact information.

In your case, it sounds like your return may have been selected for additional review. When the IRS resumes normal operations, please reach out to them at 800 829 1040 regarding the delay.

The online link is your best option to track your refund.  I have attached a link with more answers from the IRS as to why your refund may be taking longer to process.

Federal refund questions

There is a delay in processing the returns as the IRS is not processing paper returns at the moment due to Covid-19 and social distancing policies in effect.

I filed me 2019 taxes on March 1st. I recieved my state return three weeks later and have yet to recieve my federal. It's going on three months now and TurboTax nor IRS can help me track my refund. I have put in my SS, refund amount and filing status and they tell me they have no record of it. Can anyone tell me what to do?

Unfortunately, you may just have to wait a bit longer than normal.

The IRS issues a lot of refunds within 21 days, but it has been taking longer with the stimulus payment being issued in addition to the tax refunds.

Also, be aware, the IRS operations are limited during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Attached is a link with more information as to what departments are available to contact at the moment.

The IRS is operating with limited staff as many of its centers are still closed.  Returns are still show in the status processing because there is limited to no (in some departments or centers) staff to process them. The same is true for live phone service.

It is not yet known when normal operations will resume but once they do continued delays are expected due to extensive backlogs of processing.

Unfortunately, there isn't much to do other than wait once you have verified that your return was accepted by the IRS.

Five Months and 28 days still nothing from the IRS mailed in my refund to the Utah IRS location. Just checked the IRS again still says its unable to find me. Are they processing mailed in refunds yet. I am lucky at least I know the IRS has my direct deposit info cause I got my stimulus check a couple months ago. So I guess that means no one else got my refund.

Sorry the IRS has limited staff due to Covid-19.  They just started opening the mail in June that's been stacking up. Back in March the IRS closed their processing centers and stopped processing mailed tax returns.  An IRS spokesperson recently said that they have about 11 million pieces of unopened mail.  So you have to keep waiting.

Is it showing up at IRS Where's my refund yet?

Make sure you are using the refund amount from your actual federal tax return and not the combined amount Turbo Tax showed you at the end.  That was for federal and state combined.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted?
Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.

You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "Transmit my returns now".

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.

Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.  Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.

To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product.
If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions
If over 21 days since being Accepted by the IRS and the tax refund is still Processing you can call the IRS and speak with an IRS agent concerning your tax refund.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

I filed in February 14th, 2020 and npw it's September and i still haven't received my income tax return yet. They keep on sending me letters in the mail stating they are verifing information and not action  is needed. I feel it's going to take years for them to issue me a refund.
