How to import tax year 2022 turbotax premier online version to 2023 desktop premier version

I used turbotax premier downloaded version for tax year 2021 and 2022 and filed electronically.  For tax year 2023, I purchased a desktop turbotax premier version.  When I continued to import as a choice given, turbotax said it doesn't have a 2022 tax year under my ID. It's the correct ID because the second ID hasn't been login since 2021.  It's also filed using turbotax because I have email confirmations from turbotax that the efiles for federal and state were successful. How to fix this? I can still open my 2022  version and export, but it generates a PDF file which I understand cannot be imported.  Please assist. Thank you.

What did you use for 2021 & 2022?  The Online version or the Desktop CD/Download program?   Download refers to the Desktop program, not the online version.    What do you mean you can open your 2022 version?  You can open the 2022 program or an Online return?  Sounds like you used the Desktop program last year.

If you used the Desktop program, you need the data file ending in .tax2022 to transfer. It should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax folder. Or search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax or .tax2022.

If you used the Online version last year you need to download the .tax2022 file or there is a button on the 2023 Desktop start page to Import From Turbo Tax Online.

Hello, Thanks for the response.  I thought I used the online version, but I think it's actually the CD/Downloaded version for 2021 and 2022.  For years 2021 and 2022, I purchased Turbotax from Amazon, and an email was sent to me with instructions on how to download Turbotax and activate with a code. When completed with doing the taxes, I used e-file directly from Turbotax.  I still have TurboTax 2022 software on my Windows laptop and able to launch the software and view the completed file return but there is no .tax2022 file, and neither is there is .tax2021 file.  However, when I logged onto Turbotax Intuit account, it said there's an error and not able to view/import year 2022. The TurboTax software says "Turbotax online" on the top left when I'm using it, that's why I thought it was an online version, but it was a downloaded version.  

For tax year 2023, I purchased Turbotax from BJ's.  The packet says "2 ways to install: Download or CD.  So, I think it's been the DOWNLOAD versions I've been using. 

Anyhow, I don't have .tax files. I can't load past file from intuit turbotax online when I log in. I only have the complete .pdf files.
Does this mean I'm out of luck?

Sounds like you are in the Online web version and not the Desktop program.  Did you get the program installed and activated with the 16 digit License Code?  Are you on Windows or Mac?

Are you on the same computer that you did 2022 on?  You should not Transfer from the pdf.  The pdf only transfers basic info like your name, address, ssn and AGI.  You really need the data file ending in .tax2022. It should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder.  Or search your computer for all files ending in .tax or .tax2022.

Here's an idea.  Do you still have 2022 installed?  Try opening 2022 program and see if you can get your 2022 return to show up in it.  Go to FILE - OPEN.   Then save it again with a name and place you can find.  Go to File - Save As.  Then start a new 2023 return and transfer from the 2022 file.  Don't export it.  Just go up to File-Save or Save As.  

You said you used the 2022 Premier Online version but then said you used the download version for 2021 and 2022.  Which is it?  Online is not the same as the Desktop download.

I followed your instructions and opened up Turbotax 2022 and did a "SAVE AS" and was able to generate a .tax2022 file!!!!! Thank you!!! I will now try to import this to turbotax 2023. Hope everything will transfer over!!
