I'm having a problem getting on the phone to the number IRS has provided. It will don't let me hold. I can't get on the website, I forgot my user name and password, and they will not go any further name requesting my phone number. Can you help?
Why are you trying to reach the IRS? Their main number is 800-829-1040.
This strategy worked for me. Thanks, Chris! I performed the Google search suggested and found listed on the IRS website the number listed in the letter 6330C that I just received.
I just received the same letter, I'm always skeptical when they start asking for payment or bank info! Sound sketchy but the letter looks official but, I'll be proceeding with caution!
Funny you say that but so true ! if you're not on hold for a hours than their not doing their job, its the worst.
I HAVE TO VERIFY MY IDENTITY
https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-verification-for-irs-letter-recipients
I have called , unable to answer my call because of heavy volume
THIS!!! I've been trying to verify for WEEKS. "We're sorry, due to large call volume please call back later or the next business day...". Other departments said to call closer to 7pm. Another said to write my Congressman as they've seen that work. This is ridiculous.
@FBratsis Call at 7 a.m in the morning, not 7 p.m at night.
I have been calling every since I got this letter not getting a respond online or by phone
Using a google search term of:
site:*.irs.gov "[phone number removed]"
I WAS able to find that number on at least two IRS.GOV pages...

https://www.irs.gov/irm/part21/irm_21-003-004r
So what do ineed to do you suggest should I call.them.abiut ny.letter i recieber the same letter that you did
