I did not mean Free version - I meant Free as in DIY Version - There is DIY, Expert Assist, Expert Full Service. When you login now it says Business Taxes or Personal taxes which is deceptive. If you select business it AUTOMATICALLY puts you into the more expensive DIY Assist version. Luckily ive only entered a few items for this tax season so was able to go back and clear and start over. I only was aware of checking the prices because of last years issues I had with being forced into a particular product. This is frustrating for those who get all the way to the end and end up paying more because TurboTax now doesn't easily give you a choice of product, its automatically selecting the product but now very clear that its doing it and im sure most people won't find out until they spend all that time entering their info only to get to the end to find out they are forced into paying for the Expert Assist version and never actually intended to. They need to make it clear like in last where you go in and can compare and select a product then upgrade later, not give you what version it THINKS you need then no option of downgrading near checkout without clearing everything and starting over. They did the same thing with discounts where if it was not applied at the start like the fidelity discount then they will not add it on later at the end. And again, difficult to get a person on chat or email to explain the issue - lots of hoops to jump through and its buried the website.
From what to what? To go back to a lower version or the Free Edition you can try to clear and start over https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/how-do-i-clear-and-start-over-in-turbotax-onli...
If you started your tax return in TurboTax Free Edition (Form 1040 with limited credits; roughly 37% of taxpayers qualify), you won't need to clear and start over. You can select Switch to Free Edition instead.
In the Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now. Why do I have to upgrade from the Free Edition?

Or try the IRS Free File program

The problem is when you start it forces you into this new Expert Assist mode when you are self employed and select business taxes then it gives NO OPTION of going back to the free version. This has happened last year and I get all the way to the end and was charged more and customer service refused to let me go back to the other version and I was forced to pay more. Each year it's made more and more confusing and they change up version names. All to that end they provide ZERO live customer service and instead I need to come here to a community board where people answering have no authority to access my account and make changes.
You cannot use the Free Edition if you have self employment income, because you must prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses. You can use do-it-yourself Premium online or any version of the desktop download in order to prepare a Schedule C.

@bwilliams2800 If you are filing a Schedule C for self employment you don't need the Business version. Those Online Business Expert Assist and Full Service versions are for separate business returns like 1120, 1120-S corp, C corp and 1065 Partnership returns. The DIY Busines version would only be the Desktop program you download to a WIndows computer (not MAC).
If you are filing self employment you need to use the personal Online Premium version or any of the personal Desktop programs. All the Desktop programs have the same forms so you can use a lower version like Deluxe, but Home & Business will have the most help. And Home&Business lets you prepare W2s and 1099NEC to give to your employees. You can buy the personal Desktop programs here….
