@akp3866 its unfortunate for being in this situation. This is my first time filling the tax by mail because of this ITIN requirement. Please keep me posted here if you receive any update.
Thank you!
My paperwork was received on April 2nd with a tracking. I am reading online that IRS announced Paper filed return processing halted on April 9th. In that case, any paperwork received before that would they process it when the center will be open- any idea?. I apologize for the trouble. I am just being paranoid. If we need to wait or fill anything electronically to get this processed.
If you mailed in the proper paperwork all you can do is wait until it is processed. Once the ITIN is issued the federal will be forwarded for processing ... you are considered timely filed even if this happens after 7/15. As for the state, put yourself on extension now which will get you to 10/15/20. When the ITIN is issued you will get a notice with the number so you can complete the state return at that time.
@rinagill I share your feelings as well. My paperwork reached Austin on March 6th. I had called IRS when telephone assistance was available and was informed that it would take at least 3 weeks (under normal conditions) for IRS to provide us with acknowledgement that they have our documents - I asked these questions as I had to send my kid's passport. And yes - I have not heard anything till now. I would assume that your package would be unopened as of today.
About filing electronically again - IRS asks taxpayers NOT to file electronically if the paper returns have been mailed already.
Thanks !
Thank you! I appreciate for the help answering my question.
Hi,
I have applied for ITIN this year March/12/2020 for my wife and kids. I did not get any update till today May/18/2020.
I tried calling Customer care [phone number removed], I am not sure whats option i need to select to check the status.
I have selected option 1 to check the refund status. I don,t see the call has been routed to a agent who i can talk with.
Can you please guide me on this.
Regards,
Venkata
Check here for your federal refund status : https://www.irs.gov/refunds
Hi Venkata,
We have the only option of waiting right now. No phone assistance until further notice & no paper return processing until further notice - we might get some clarity once they have telephone assistance up and running again.
Thanks
No i dont have any information on https://www.irs.gov/refunds
I see in IRS website telephone service is available for limited hours.
Telephone Assistance: IRS live phone assistance is extremely limited at this time.
That is interesting, can you please share the link ?
Thanks !

Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or any tax refund.
The dates for receiving a tax refund after it has been accepted by the IRS are only estimates based on the IRS target of issuing a tax refund after 21 days from the date it was accepted by the IRS. This is a target only and not a guarantee.
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions
If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If over 21 days since being Accepted by the IRS and the tax refund is still Processing you can call the IRS and speak with an IRS agent concerning your tax refund.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.
Or you can contact your local IRS office. See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment
Or you may want to contact a Taxpayer Advocate in your area. See this IRS website for Taxpayer Advocate in your area and a toll free number - http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate
