I gave birth this year but my child died the same day. Do we still claim her on our taxes? We have a social security number.

Is this still applicable? Do I put down that I paid for over half of her support? I paid for the funeral and everything else for her, medical expenses. etc.

Yes it is.  I am sorry for your loss.

Funeral expenses are not deductible but medical expenses would deductible in the year paid.   There must be proof of a live birth shown by an official document, such as a birth certificate.

"Do I put down that I paid for over half of her support?", NO.  You say that she lived with you the whole year.  A child that was born anytime during the year is deemed to have lived with you the entire year.  Support is not a requirement.

Very sorry for your loss.

You can claim your child as a dependent on your 2014 tax return.  A child born during the year and that passes away during the year is deemed to have lived in your home for the entire year.  In the Personal Info section of the program when entering the child as a dependent you would indicate that the child passed away during the year and the date of passing.

A child stillborn cannot be claimed. Otherwise if the child is born alive lf only for a moment he/she can be claimed.

Per Pub 17 <a href="http://www.irs.gov/publications/p17/ch03.html#en_US_2013_publink1000170876" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.irs.gov/publications/p17/ch03.html#en_US_2013_publink1000170876</a>

"Child born alive.   You may be able to claim an exemption for a child born alive during the year, even if the child lived only for a moment. State or local law must treat the child as having been born alive. There must be proof of a live birth shown by an official document, such as a birth certificate. The child must be your qualifying child or qualifying relative, and all the other tests to claim an exemption for a dependent must be met. "

@kateland21 - Sorry for your loss.

If your child was born and died in 2015 and didn't have an SSN, enter “DIED” in column (2) of line 6c (Form 1040 or 1040A) and include a copy of the child's birth certificate, death certificate, or hospital records. The document must show that the child was born alive.

You will have to print and mail file to do that.

When you go to file, you choose the file by mail option and not the e-file.   The mailing instructions will be on the first sheet of the print out.
