Will I get my Stimulus Payment? (please help)

So apparently my parents claimed me as dependent even though I haven't lived with them for 6 years and they no longer financially support me. On the IRS website I filed my return through the 1040 form in the Non-Filer section, and I left the "someone can claim you as a dependent" box unchecked. My return was then accepted by IRS but they still apparently "haven't determined my eligibility for the payment" and I've also been getting the "payment status not available" message. It's already been 8 days since the IRS accepted my return, and I just want to know if I have any chance of getting my stimulus payment.

how old are you and did you file taxes on your own?

I’m 22 and I filed my tax return by myself on the IRS website at the non-filer section for stimulus payments.

Most likely your social will register under dependent and you won't get one. And by not checking that box, you are committing fraud by lying to the government. If you get a check you are not entitled to and the IRS finds out, you will have to pay the money back.

are you a full time student in 2019 or not?

why did you file at the non-filer website if you filed taxes?

Probably not.  The vast majority of 22 year old non-filers CAN be claimed by their parent(s).

It's not clear yet, how the IRS will treat this very common scenario.    But, even if you don't get the stimulus in 2020, you may get one next year.

"In essence, the stimulus check acts as an advance of your 2020 income tax refund. This means when you prepare your 2020 income tax return, there will be a line to include the section 6428 credit. The credit on your 2020 return is subtracted by any amount received as a stimulus check in 2020. If the amount you received as a stimulus check is less than the credit you are due, the difference will be included as part of your 2020 refund. If you have been overpaid by receiving the stimulus check, however, you will not be required to return any excess amount".

I’m not committing fraud. I’ve checked the requirements for when a parent can claim someone as their dependent, and I don’t fit the criteria. As I stated before I have not lived with them for 6 years and they don’t pay my living expenses. Which is why it is confusing when I asked them if I’m claimed as dependent and they said I am.

I was not a student in 2019. I only started college this year and I’m not sure if I even qualify as “full time” yet cause I’m only taking 10 credits.

I didn’t remember if I filed any taxes before then, and apparently I didn’t cause the IRS website wouldn’t accept my info to create an account until after I filled out the 1040 form on the non-filer website. Still can’t create an account though cause I don’t have a credit card or home loan blah blah blah, just a debit card but they say they can’t verify debit cards.

Also I had a job last year, I just didn’t know to file my taxes and I didn’t make all that much money.

But how can I be claimed when I haven’t lived with my parents for 6 years and they don’t pay my living expenses? If I filed the 1040 form and left the dependent box unchecked, shouldn’t I be in the right? I see no reason why I should be considered dependent on my parents.

Also I haven’t even got another job this year yet since I just started college (only 10 credits though) and we’re in the middle of a pandemic so how am I supposed to get a job to earn income for this tax credit thing anyway? Also,my parents aren’t paying any of my tuition for college either. They are literally a non-factor in my life right now. Haven’t seen them in 6 years.

And I’m asking since I just filed my 1040 form 8 days ago and left the dependent box unchecked if that will override any “dependent” status I may have had. I have no idea how I was claimed as dependent according to my parents when I don’t live with my them and they don’t give me any money. To not pay me a stimulus check because of this is asinine.

assuming your parents did it again in 2019,

when there is a conflict like this the IRS has to resolve it first.

They will figure out if you are a dependent or not.

Since you are not, you will get the stimulus on your 2020 tax return.

If you filed a 1040 and registered as a non-filer, you setup another conflict that the IRS will have to  resolve.

Okay and here’s another thing. Been talking to one of my parents and they say that since I technically don’t pay for most of my living expenses and that I’m in college, THEY get to claim me as their dependent. But the thing is, first of all THEY’RE NOT the ones giving me money. THEY DON’T pay for my living expenses at all, and I had a small job last year so I payed for some of my own food and other necessities. Also I wasn’t in college last year, I only started college this year. Based on this I don’t think they get to claim me as their dependent. I only think they were able to claim me because I didn’t file my own tax return. But since I filed my own tax return about 8 days ago and left the dependent box unchecked, I should be considered independent for taxes in 2019, right? I’ve read online that if I’m over the age of 19 and not a full-time student, and they don’t pay for over half of my living expenses, then they don’t get to claim me on their taxes. Is this true?
