Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Okay and here’s another thing. Been talking to one of my parents and they say that since I technically don’t pay for most of my living expenses and that I’m in college, THEY get to claim me as their dependent. But the thing is, first of all THEY’RE NOT the ones giving me money. THEY DON’T pay for my living expenses at all, and I had a small job last year so I payed for some of my own food and other necessities. Also I wasn’t in college last year, I only started college this year. Based on this I don’t think they get to claim me as their dependent. I only think they were able to claim me because I didn’t file my own tax return. But since I filed my own tax return about 8 days ago and left the dependent box unchecked, I should be considered independent for taxes in 2019, right? I’ve read online that if I’m over the age of 19 and not a full-time student, and they don’t pay for over half of my living expenses, then they don’t get to claim me on their taxes. Is this true?
