Do not try to change anything on your return now. When you amend, your Form 1040X has to be prepared from the return exactly the way it looked when you filed it originally. You have to wait. Once your return has been processed you will complete a Form 1040X --- which is not yet available --- and submit it to amend the mistakes made when you filed your original return. It takes the IRS at least four months to process an amended return.
The Form 1040X you need is under revision and is not ready yet. The Form 1040X does not become available in the software until March 25 (subject to change).

The 1040X will not be available in the software until March 26. You are correct that the the paper form is on the IRS site. You can print out that 1040X form if you want to use it—-and prepare your amended return by hand to mail in instead of waiting to use the software and e-file it.

I've seen the 3/25 date on a lot of responses in support, but the form availability sheet says 3/18.

Can you clarify if 1040X will be available on 3/18 or 3/25?
I'm asking because my ability to amend my return will make me eligible for stimulus, and the week may make all the difference.
Thanks.
March 25. Not sure why you think a week will make a big difference. It will take the IRS about 4- 6 months to process your amended return.
Looks like they moved the date up! It was the 25th.
My AGI will go under threshold on the amended return. Once it's accepted that's what will be used for stimulus. Thanks for your response.
Another interesting aspect of the SA bill is the $10,200 exemption of UE. If the $10,200 off AGI is enough to cross threshold for stimulus, how will the IRS handle that scenario? Just thinking out loud.
The 1040X isn't just for amending Federal taxes. I need it to amend my state taxes too.

In the state tax return section there will be a selection to amend the state return. It may be located in a section of the state program called Other Situations or something similar.
