WHY DOES THE SITE CONTINUE TO FREEZE

TurboTax's user interface is deteriorating.  I'm experiencing the same aggravating slow loading, dropped connection, unresponsive problems as others here and have tried all of the site tech "solutions" mentioned.  It's galling.  I'm a retired major accounting firm partner.  I've used TurboTax as a tool for many years, both professionally and personally.  Not as some unresponsive "boss" telling me what questions to ask and denying me access to individual forms and schedules I need to see and verify myself.  I've restarted my own return on a competitor's product.  So far, it is outperforming TurboTax hands down.  Faster, more accessible, responsive, etc.  I'll ultimately file with whichever application gives me better performance and gives me confidence that it's accurate.

WHY DOES THE SITE CONTINUE TO FREEZE

I had deleted cookies and the cache twice before I posted my message.  I have now cleared them a third time.  The site is still slow, endless waits, error messages, and freezes.  I know that your procedures make this the standard answer to site-related issues.  But the answer does not address the problem that I and others are having with various aspects of the software.  Nor does your response deal with the basic question of having access to the forms themselves as I work through my return.  The lack of access to information and having to rely upon less than complete questions that require access to it make the system much more difficult to use now than in past years.  I don't want to give up on TurboTax, but your system is leaving me with little choice.

WHY DOES THE SITE CONTINUE TO FREEZE

Hi oldcabdriver5867,

First I am just a Turbo Tax user like you... I do not work for Turbo Tax and I would never tell you to  delete cookies, that is the standard BS from turbo tax when you call for help.  I even tried using the home desktop version of Turbo Tax, and it suffers the same problems with importing large 1099-B forms.  Not as bad as the online version, but it still stops working as well.  I want the online version because it archives my data year after year.

So the Solution is :

Go delete all those imported 1099-B(s), then do not do the import, simply enter all the 1099-B summary data into turbo tax rather than every single individual transaction which the turbo tax import does and shoots itself in foot.  All you need is the summaries.   then follow up by manually adding in your 1099-Int and 1099-Div from your 1099-B and your problems will go away.

Trust me I fought this for 3 years, spent 10 to 30 hours of my time on hold and with different turbo tax phone support each of those 3 years, never getting a solution.   So believe me I know what you are dealing with.

Do what I said and your issues will go away.   my Turbo Tax is running very fast now, I mean it could be faster, don't get me wrong, but it is not delaying 10 to 30 minutes, timing out, or sometimes even waiting hours for the page to show up just to get an notice that Turbo Tax discounted me while waiting for the page and having to start from scratch on the waiting game.

Good Luck, but yeh deleting cookies and that other crap just makes your life a mess if you accidently delete saved passwords and stuff.   That never helps, I did that it at least 100 times over those 3 years and it never solves anything.  I am a computer engineer, the problem is not your cookies.... but they never listened to me... LOL

Cheers

WHY DOES THE SITE CONTINUE TO FREEZE

Thanks.  Glad to know I'm not alone.  Having said that, it's sad that in order to make TurboTax work properly one has to go back to the old way of entering information by hand.  Kinda' defeats the purpose of using TurboTax at all.  Like you, I enjoy the benefit of loading prior tax year data.  That's about the only reason I have for remaining with them.  I'll ty what you suggested -- and I'll also compete my return using the competing software I began this week.  Just as aggravating for me is not having access to the forms themselves.  I have no confidence that TurboTax is even asking all of the right questions -- particularly when you get into things like foreign source income, foreign taxes and tax credits, sources of tax exempt income and such.  Admittedly, these aren't issues for most taxpayers.  But the are a pain in the ass for those who do have two deal with them. Perhaps they should concentrate on the 1040EZ share of the market and quit overselling to those who have more complicated issues.  Thanks again.

WHY DOES THE SITE CONTINUE TO FREEZE

Hi oldcabdriver5867,

Yeh I have a little foreign source income as well.. Turbo Tax has always handled it well for me if I choose to enter it.   The partnerships and K1 are a pain with turbo tax, like if I sell some shares short and some long, Turbo Tax has no way for me to enter that when entering my Sched K1, so I usually end up just defaulting to short so IRS can never say I under paid.

But the main reason I am writing is you can view the actual tax forms, you just have to pay them their money in advance.  and most brokers offer a $20 discount or if you have T. Rowe Price, they offer TT Deluxe free on federal.

They don't want to show you the real tax forms until you pay, otherwise you could cheat them and print your forms out and file them by mail.   So that is the only reason you can't see your real forms, but cough up the money and you can.   Just go to the print my tax return and select just federal and it will ask pay now, if you pay you will be able to see your real tax forms.

But I got to tell you entering the old way, creates a much smaller tax return, since you are just entering the summaries of the long reported, short reported, long not reported and short not reported totals.  I way prefer this now that I know I can do that.

I am pretty confident once you do this your slow sluggish and timing out issues with the software will clear up.  It does kinda stink, but in the end I like it better to be honest.  You have to go figure out all stuff like for federal bonds anyway, and enter that by hand on the 1099-Div, the import is not going to pick up on all that stuff... and if you have tax free ETF or Muni Bonds, you need to enter that stuff by hand anyway.

Cheers and please send me a quick message to let me know if it fixed the freeze up problem for you like it did me.  That way the rest of the people will benefit and learn as well.

WHY DOES THE SITE CONTINUE TO FREEZE

I have to complete my Turbo tax return and the "Submit" blue rectangular button is frozen.  Please  unfreeze or I will have to go elsewhere.  This is very irritating and a total waste of time!

How do we delete worthless useless responses like yours...    clearing local cookies and cache nor changing browsers is going to fix these problems when the problem is Turbo Tax back end servers stalling out and and failing when you have hundreds of stock trades.  Please pay attention to the whole thread before offering up worthless responses to a real problem.

WHY DOES THE SITE CONTINUE TO FREEZE

CLEARING CACHE DOES NOTHING.

you must have some **bleep**ty server side scripting to show a "realistic" looking 1098 form. we dont goddamn need that. Disable that and let us type the value and be done with it. This place hung for me last year too. This year I am waiting for 3 hours to get it done and still now luck.

And no, I refuse to manual enter like others have recommended. Its a lot of transactions to do this per entry. Especially after you had the balls to show a screen that says "be ready to be amazed" as we import your data!

Will be looking for an alternative next year. This level of **bleep**tiness is unacceptable for the price you charge.

WHY DOES THE SITE CONTINUE TO FREEZE

***SOLVED***

- browser cookies clearing doesnt work. And your internet speed is fine -

I called into an (knowledgeable) agent who helped me with the issue. when you import your investments using the auto import feature, there are two scenarios for which the import doesnt work. However the interface doesnt say there was an issue

- if somehow the fields that turbotax is expecting doesnt match with what the brokerage is providing.

- you are importing more than 500 rows.

For both these scenarios - DO NOT import, if you did, go back to "wages screen" and delete the connection and do a manual summarized entry. You will be prompted to upload the 1099B pdf. Do that and you are done.

Thank you Agent BIANCA for helping with this. she was kind enough to offer a service code that waives turbotax charge. I couldn't use it because I had already paid the fee. But I still appreciated the gesture. And definitely appreciate the workaround.

I am hoping turbotax fixes these issues 2022 filing season!

Yes, this was what I did. Each time I download 1099 from the brokers, turbo tax freeze saying "not responding". I ended up typed in all the tradings. Took me two days
