Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Hi oldcabdriver5867,
Yeh I have a little foreign source income as well.. Turbo Tax has always handled it well for me if I choose to enter it. The partnerships and K1 are a pain with turbo tax, like if I sell some shares short and some long, Turbo Tax has no way for me to enter that when entering my Sched K1, so I usually end up just defaulting to short so IRS can never say I under paid.
But the main reason I am writing is you can view the actual tax forms, you just have to pay them their money in advance. and most brokers offer a $20 discount or if you have T. Rowe Price, they offer TT Deluxe free on federal.
They don't want to show you the real tax forms until you pay, otherwise you could cheat them and print your forms out and file them by mail. So that is the only reason you can't see your real forms, but cough up the money and you can. Just go to the print my tax return and select just federal and it will ask pay now, if you pay you will be able to see your real tax forms.
But I got to tell you entering the old way, creates a much smaller tax return, since you are just entering the summaries of the long reported, short reported, long not reported and short not reported totals. I way prefer this now that I know I can do that.
I am pretty confident once you do this your slow sluggish and timing out issues with the software will clear up. It does kinda stink, but in the end I like it better to be honest. You have to go figure out all stuff like for federal bonds anyway, and enter that by hand on the 1099-Div, the import is not going to pick up on all that stuff... and if you have tax free ETF or Muni Bonds, you need to enter that stuff by hand anyway.
Cheers and please send me a quick message to let me know if it fixed the freeze up problem for you like it did me. That way the rest of the people will benefit and learn as well.
