I have been trying to import my Vanguard account for quite some time in Turbotax and every time it fails saying form is not available. (I have a Vanguard brokerage account and I did correctly choose between two Vanguards that show up in search box). Forms have been available on Vanguard site for quite some time now (can login and see the forms).
Only thing that I could think of is that this is a joint account and TurboTax or Vanguard are somehow failing to retrieve the data. Any one else facing similar issue?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
I am sorry you are experiencing this issue. If you are not able to import your transactions into TurboTax, you can enter them manually. Here's how:
1) Once in your return, click Income & Expenses (top tabs)
2) Scroll down till you see Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other
3) Follow the prompts to add in your sales
do you know specifically that the forms are ready for your account? if yes, have you called Vanguard?
I am having the same problem in importing 1099 B. The form was first posted at my brokerage online account yesterday. More than a few times yesterday I tried to import to Turbotax and got this message from online brokerage account:
No 1099 tax forms are available for this account. If you continue to experience problems, please contact - [Brokerage phone number]
I called the brokerage account and they said they had no idea why it wouldn't work for me.
I then asked to be called by a TT representative. She couldn't help me either, after trying for about 20 minutes.
This has always worked for me in the past. My "gut" feeling is that TurboTax hasn't taken the necessary steps to make this happen. It's very frustrating!
I am having the same problem and a problem logging in from our other logon to the same account. With one of the accounts, receive the error
This import was unsuccessful or there are no brokerage tax forms available at this time. For more information visit vanguard.com/taxcenter.
Tax center shows the forms are available.
From our other account, I get the error message that the login failed, check username or password. Have tried this numerous times and it doesn't work. Worked last year.
The reason we bought the premier version was so I didn't have to type in all the data manually and potentially make mistakes.
Please click here for instructions on entering the 1099-B. If you have already completed these steps and still get the same errors, please click here to get in contact with customer care.
Sorry to hear about your issue. I do not have a solution other than to say that I have experienced time lags between when 1099s are first available at Vanguard or other institutions, and the time they can be imported via TurboTax. Just keep trying and if it is a delay issue, congratulations: the problem will disappear.
However, I do like to share a related issue that I have. In this case attempts to import from the Vanguard Brokerage portal (not to be confused with the Vanguard Mutual Funds portal) into TurboTax result in a pop-up that says "the primary owner of the brokerage account must be logged on to import this information", or essentially, telling me that my logon protocol (username and password) is not recognized. Note I have two accounts with Vanguard, one in Mutual Funds and a new one in Brokerage which I added in 2019. This failure to logon happens only with the Brokerage account, for whatever reasons, and is more galling because I use/need the same protocol to access all my accounts on Vanguard.com. To be fair, I have used TurboTax for a number of years without any gate-keeping issues in importing, with Vanguard as well as with 3 other financial institutions including this year. Perhaps it is a database issue because the account is relatively new. But sure is mysterious, not to mention annoying.
You can summarize the entire form into 4 lines and input it manually.
You can do one total for each of the 4 categories:
I am having the same Vanguard Brokerage 1099 import problems as the other individuals. It makes me crazy to see posts from TurboTax representatives giving instructions on how to enter the information manually. This is an insensitive response to customers who paid to use a high quality Turbotax product.
Acknowledge that there is an import issue and tell us when it will be fixed.
I have two Vanguard accounts with tax forms. One imports and the other does not.
I am sorry. you are having trouble. TurboTax does not have any known technical issues on our side with brokerages. We are just trying to give you advice to work within the areas we can help.
If you choose to do the 4 line summary I mentioned above, you are required to send a copy of your 1099B to the IRS. Once you submit your electronic copy, TurboTax prints out a cover letter and instructions on where to send a copy of your 1099B.
I am trying to import two different brokerage statements from my Vanguard account. The first one imported successfully several weeks ago. When I tried to import the second one today (2/20/20121), it imported the first one again, even thought I selected the second one from the Vanguard list of tax statements. So I removed this import. Then I tried to import the second one again and this time it replaced the first one in TurboTax with the second one. Anyone else having this problem? I am using the desktop version of TurboTax Premier.
I cannot get any of my accounts to import from Vanguard
@lisaellis614 If you can't import your transactions properly, you can enter them manually.
If you have a large number of transactions, you can Enter a Summary in Lieu of Individual Transactions, using your Brokerage Consolidated Statement for category totals.
