Tax Year Prior to 2020: How or where do I sign my efile return?

During the filing process (Click File, and start Step 3) in TurboTax you will be asked for either your Original prior year adjusted gross income (AGI) or your prior year PIN. The AGI or the prior year PIN serves as your signature on an e-filed tax return.

Note: Once you click File (on the left side of your screen), Steps 1 and 2 have to be completed before you can Start Step 3.

You will have three final steps in TurboTax before you can finalize and "sign" your tax return. Click "File" and follow the steps, then click Transmit Returns Now. You will need to verify you are not a robot. If you are experiencing what is called a missing "reCAPTCHA" issue which is preventing you from seeing the " I am not a robot" box. Use this TurboTax FAQ for Transmission issues and tips to fix them.

Yes, you need to enter previous year AGI instead of PIN.

Tax Year Prior to 2020: How or where do I sign my efile return?

You sign an efile return by entering your 2019 AGI to verify you.  If you need to give someone a copy you need to print it out and sign it in ink.  You don't physically attach any forms like W2s or 1099 to your return.  When you efile you don't have to mail in anything except a tax due payment if you said to pay by check.  That's one of the benefits of efiling, nothing to mail in.

Or do you need to know how or where to enter a 1099?

To sign your e-file return, you have to enter any 5 numbers as your electronic signature, before clicking on transmit. Please see these TurboTax FAQs for more information, How do I e-file my personal (individual) tax retur... and Is my Self-Select PIN the same as my IP PIN?

@Donna5684  You are not signing your electronically filed return to the IRS with a normal signature, instead, you are using a PIN, last year's AGI, etc to verify it is you. If you are taking the forms somewhere, like to a mortgage company or court, you will want to sign the 1040 page 2 near the bottom.
