Tax return rejected due to joint occupancy form 5695 e-file

Why is this STILL not working!?
I am married, filing jointly e-file, we live together and still getting rejected for the joint occupancy form 5695 form.

It said I could re file on 3/17/25, well thats today and it still didnt work. I saw one other place where it said to wait until 3/27/25 to file. Why would it make us wait that long to file. Turbo tax should have saw this error while it was reviewing all of our documents, this makes no sense and is beyond frustrating.

Tax return rejected due to joint occupancy form 5695 e-file

This is due to a processing error that is a known issue with the IRS. ‌It'll be corrected on March 27, 2025. On or after March 27, 2025 open the rejected return, review it for errors, and resubmit the return for electronic filing. If you don't want to wait until March 27, you may print the return and file it by mail.

Tax return rejected due to joint occupancy form 5695 e-file

Copied here from my post in another thread.

Just wanted to say thank you to this thread and the Tax Experts advice.

I did want to pass along that we use desktop version of TT Premier.
Married filing jointly.

Original Fed & State return submission rejected.

I did try just unchecking the joint occupancy box directly on the 5695 form in Forms Mode.

Re-submitted and Fed + 2 States ALL rejected again.

Went into TT again and deleted the 5695 worksheet that TT also automatically created during the step-by-step process.

Resubmitted and ALL Fed & State returns were accepted. So glad I didn't have to wait for any TT update of their template. Form 5695 actually has a note near the top that if your joint return is your spouse do not check that Joint Occupancy box. Our tax situation does not have any splitting of 5695 credits.

Again appreciated the thread and maybe this helps with some frustration of others like me:-)

Thank you for the reply!

So I did go on to TT today on a desktop and deleted the 5695 form, re did the energy credit portion, re submitted and both were still rejected!

Was it rejected for the same reason or another reason?

Here's how you can fix it:

Sign in to your account and select the Fix my return button. Follow any “fix it” instructions to update the information causing the rejection.

Note: Not all rejections will have explicit guides to fix the information. You’ll need to navigate to the program area to address the cause of the rejection.

Time-saving Tip: If what you originally entered is correct, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, a dependent that's already been claimed, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return. This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.

Tax return rejected due to joint occupancy form 5695 e-file

Laura, on our married filing jointly return, we were only claiming credit for Form 5695 Part II section, Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, with no splitting of credit amount. I did not delete the actual Form 5695 since you need that for claiming any credit. What I had noticed in TT list of forms in our return is that the original incorrect selection of checking joint occupancy box ALSO created a form in our return called Joint Occupancy (in essence a worksheet feeding Form 5695). I deleted that Joint Occupancy form from our returns list of included forms. Inputted our credit claim directly into Form 5695. That seemed to make our return accepted after that. Certainly tough to understand all the nuances of taxpayer's situations. When trying the fix our return option in TT, there was really nothing flagged as an error in TT prior to any attempts, as various folks posting on this topic in different threads noted.

Now it’s rejected due to IND-507-01

i double checked the social security number for each of my dependents. They are correct.
says the Dependent SSN was previously used on a return for the same tax period. Does this have anything to do with me submitting my return multiple times and getting rejected? And why didn’t this come up before as a reject code?

Do you suggest I get an IP PIN which is what it seems it’s suggesting?

Ok, this means your dependent was used as a dependent on another return already filed. This would not happen due to submitting multiple times. Is there someone else who could have claimed the child as a dependent? If not, then yes, I would get and IP Pin.

The IRS system rejects at the first instance of error. I wish they would trigger all reject codes at once, but once it comes across one reject it quits searching and rejects for that error.

Tax return rejected due to joint occupancy form 5695 e-file

Okay thank you. So I triple checked both my dependents SSN and everything looks good. I tried to delete them off and re enter everything just to be sure but it was rejected again for same reason.

I have an IRS account and my identity is verified and I can find the IP pin page but I’m confused about whether it’s me getting an IP PIN or my dependent? It’s the dependents SSN number I believe that’s the issues but my young child can’t have her own IRS account. So I’m just confused because it’s not me who needs the pin it’s my daughter ?

Also how can I see which dependent is having the issue with the SSN? I see where it says it should say 1 or 2 but I can’t see that anywhere ?

Review the Description field. There'll be a number in brackets, [?], that identifies which dependent is causing this reject. For example: "[2]" will identify the second dependent from the top.

Tax return rejected due to joint occupancy form 5695 e-file

Our was rejected for the same code was told the 17th we could fix and refile. Now it's saying the 27th.. but we don't file jointly we file married filing separate. So don't understand why the rejection.

Tax return rejected due to joint occupancy form 5695 e-file

I got the same error weeks ago and have been waiting until today (March 27) to refile my return. It’s still not working. When will this be fixed?

Tax return rejected due to joint occupancy form 5695 e-file

Same here.  I am still getting this error.  I tried calling turbotax this morning, and they said maybe try later tonight.  it "should be fixed by the weekend hopefully".  This is getting extremely frustrating.

Please wait until later today or tomorrow and then you should be able to successfully file.
