It said it would be fixed today(3/27/25), but it was still rejected. Thank you for your suggestion for form 5695. I deleted the joint worksheet and made sure the filing jointly box at the top of form 5695 was not checked(even though my 1040 is married filing joint). Checked that my energy credit was on form 5695 then resubmitted and it was successful! Your fix worked.
Thanks again.
This is still not working for me. Can you advise if this issue has been fixed and I should get on the phone with turbotax to resolve? Or is there a new date we can expect this to be fixed?
now, essentially the rejection message is now stating 4th of April for anticipated fix date, in which this so-called fix date has been pushed back time and time again. This is getting very frustrating and as the dead-line approaching (4/15), i am not so sure if i can count on that. Since i paid for the software to do this, i am not mailing it out, it is not cheap.
It is so frustrating. I ran into a similar issue with my business taxes so I’m exhausted at this point. I called them yesterday and I was essentially told to file for an extension because they have little confidence it will get fixed.
POS Turbo Tax still does not work . Got 5695_Joint_Occupancy again
I have used TT for ever. If I have to mail on never again.
I called 1-800 Turbotax for help. Was told you have to file the 5695 form by mail.
Appears when you get to the next vaporware that turbo tax is going to fix the issue date of April 4th they will just roll to telling you to paper file.
I am going to try filling with another tax prep software.
I e-filed about a month ago, return was rejected told to wait until IRS fixed their problem 3/27.
Re-filed 3/27, and return was rejected AGAIN and told to wait until 4/7. Is this another consequence of DOGE unethical intrusion?
Why does TurboTax allow return e-file with this Form included if it's not fixed since last year?
Aside from IRS screwups, the very confusing 5695 Form has no real help to complete using an interview style input like so many other TTax forms do. I suggest you engineer some help on this.
The IRS updated the system this week to start accepting e-filed tax returns with Form 5695 Joint Occupancy. However, a processing problem still exists. To ensure the accuracy of tax returns, TurboTax is working hard to eliminate the issue. The expected resolution date is April 4, 2025. On or after that date, please log back into your TurboTax account, fix any error messages and e-file your tax return.
There is also an option to print and mail your return. If the special rule for joint occupants applies to you, please make sure that the box on line 32a of Form 5695 is checked. Then attach a statement to your printed return that explains how the special rule applies to your situation.
This statement should include:
TurboTax does not automatically generate this statement, so you will need to create it yourself. Make sure to include this statement when you mail your tax return to the IRS.
Here is a possible template that you can use:
Statement for Special Rule for Joint Occupants
Taxpayer Name: [Your Full Name]
Taxpayer Identification Number: [Your SSN or ITIN]
Tax Year: [Year]
Names and Social Security Numbers of Joint Occupants:
[Full Name of Joint Occupant 1], [SSN of Joint Occupant 1]
[Full Name of Joint Occupant 2], [SSN of Joint Occupant 2]
(Include additional names and SSNs if applicable.)
Description of Property and Improvements:
The property is located at [Property Address]. During the tax year, the following energy-efficient improvements were made to the property:
[Description of Improvement 1] (e.g., installation of solar panels, energy-efficient windows, etc.)
[Description of Improvement 2] (if applicable).
Explanation of Cost Sharing:
The total cost of the qualified energy-efficient improvements was $[Total Cost]. The costs were shared among the joint occupants as follows:
[Your Full Name]: $[Amount Paid by You]
[Joint Occupant 1's Full Name]: $[Amount Paid by Joint Occupant 1]
[Joint Occupant 2's Full Name]: $[Amount Paid by Joint Occupant 2]
Based on these contributions, I am claiming my allocable share of the energy-efficient home improvement credit. My share was calculated as follows:
Credit Allocable to Me = (Credit Limit for Property) × (Amount Paid by Me / Total Amount Paid by All Occupants)
1) I do not have anything for joint applicants, so I’m still unclear why this issue still exists. What type of statement do I need to include with no joint applicants?
2) Also since I already paid for efiling how can I request a refund if the resolution is to mail in my taxes. The most frustrating part of this whole issue is that TurboTax charged me, and THEN my return was rejected. It should not pass the final review step so I’m not charged. I have been through this with my business taxes and if you request a refund with the online version it is immediately rejected because “you don’t pay until you file” which is very misleading and incorrect.
If you are Married Filing Jointly, say NO to the question 'did you occupy the home with another person?' This refers to someone other than your spouse.
If you're using TurboTax Desktop, go to FORMS and uncheck the Joint Occupancy box at the top of the form and try Efiling again.
If you're using TurboTax Online, in the interview, say NO to the Joint Occupancy question, clear your Cache and Cookies, and try Efiling again.
Trust me I have tried all of this. Which is why I believe it’s an issue with TurboTax and not the IRS. I say “No” to the question about owning the home with someone else And I have tried deleting all my cache and cookies.
Thanks @AnnetteB6! Will the Turbo Tax fix on April 4 include a version of this statement for e-filing? If not, it sounds like the only solution is to file by mail so that I can attach the statement, correct?
Yes, the update should include a statement for e-filing. The statement is only if you decide to mail your return.
How confident is TurboTax that they will have a resolution by April 4th for this issue? Should we all be starting the process to file for an extension? What will be the process for getting a partial refund from TurboTax if we have to get an extension or mail in our taxes? Thank you.
Also, to clarify- the only people that can uncheck form 5695 and resubmit are those that are married and filing jointly, correct? If I own a co-own a house with my fiance, and we are filing separately as we are not married yet, the fix will apply to me, correct? Thank you!
