No one else can see your screen or your tax return so we do not know. We have no idea if you have entered all of your income and all of the amounts that were withheld from your pay correctly and completely.
One thing that may be affecting your refund is that employers began withholding less tax when the new tax law passed for 2018 and beyond. Your paychecks were more, but that means a smaller refund now.
There are are lot of variables that affect your refund or tax due including how much you earned, how much tax you had withheld, your filing status, the number of dependents you claim, your deductions and credits, etc. You may have lost Earned Income Credit or the Child Tax Credit— did a child turn 17? If you received the EIC last year, remember that changes in the amount you earn have a big effect on the amount of EIC you can get. (Sometimes earning more money means less EIC) Are you 65 or older ? If so, your standard deduction is higher. Everyone has a higher standard deduction now so it is harder to use itemized deductions.
If you have entered all of your income and the taxes withheld along with your other tax data then that is your federal tax refund.
If your total tax payments (taxes withheld) are greater than your total tax liabilities then you will receive a tax refund for the overpayment.
Look at your tax return. On the Form 1040 Line 20 is your tax refund. On line 19 are your total tax payments. On Line 16 are your total tax liabilities.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
Where does it say the refund? That also might be federal and state combined. You have to look at the actual federal 1040 form and your state tax return.
