Whenever I try to open TurboTax I get the "TurboTax quit unexpectedly. A report was sent to Apple". I am using macOS Catalina 10.15.7. How do I fix this?

Whenever I try to open TurboTax I get the "TurboTax quit unexpectedly. A report was sent to Apple". I am using macOS Catalina 10.15.7. How do I fix this?

First - restart the Mac and see if the problem persists.

 

Then - Corruption could have occurred in the Application or in an associated preference or support file.

The best remedy is to totally uninstall TurboTax and all associate files and then re-install. That will not delete or change any .tax2020 data file that had already been created with the tax data.

To uninstall the application and all associated files need to be deleted and then the application reinstalled. If there was a state then the state must also be reinstalled.

Whenever I try to open TurboTax I get the "TurboTax quit unexpectedly. A report was sent to Apple". I am using macOS Catalina 10.15.7. How do I fix this?

I am on MacOS Version 12.2.1 and get the same issue. I have  cleaned the ~/Library files as posted. Rebooted and reinstalled multiple time with no luck.  I am including the crash report.

 

It looks like there is a bug in the client of libdispatch. The lock is not owned by the current thread.

 

Can we please get this fix!

To remove TurboTax from your computer, you'll need administrative rights.

Note: Substitute XX in these instructions for the 2-digit tax year of your TurboTax software.

  1. Remove the application TurboTax [version] 20XX in the Applications folder.
    • Version is the version of TurboTax you currently have installed, such as Basic, Deluxe, Premier, Home Business.
  2. In the Finder, select Go Go To Folder.
  3. Enter ~/Library and select Go.
  4. Remove the following files and folders (~/Library represents the Library folder in the current user’s home folder):
  • ~/Library/Application Support/TurboTax 20XX
  • ~/Library/Caches/com.intuit.TurboTax.20XX
  • ~/Library/Caches/TurboTax 20XX
  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.intuit.TurboTax.20XX.plist

    • (This folder will only appear if you installed from the Mac App Store instead of a CD or download.)

Once you've removed those files and folders:

  1. Empty your Trash.
    • Check first to that there's nothing in Trash you want.
    • If you get any errors deleting the above folders from Trash, restart your Mac and empty Trash again.
  2. Install TurboTax again from the CD or download file to the Applications folder.
  3. Start TurboTax from the Applications folder and let it run the updates.
  4. Empty the Trash again.
  5. To make sure everything is working smoothly, restart your Mac again.

Then your Mac user account itself might be corrupted.

 

You can test that by switching to another User account that is an  administrator or create one using Top Menu Bar -> System Preferences -> Users & Groups   And install TurboTax with that user.   If it works correctly then You Mac User account has problems that you need Apple support to solve (or restore or reinstall the Apple system software).
