It should calculate correctly, mine did and some others who have used it. Might want to double check your entries in the boxes related to your 2020 filing 8915-E.
Hello
Trying to figure out this 8915-F form. I used a space bar so I did not get an error for the FEMA number but it is making me put a date in for disaster beginning and ending and a first and last distribution date in Part 1 but instructions say nothing should be in that section for coronavirus. I elected to pay the remaining 2/3 amount to save this headache next year.
Thanks for any help
Mary
How did you elect to do 2/3 this year?
I am trying to figure that out too. It is as.of part of the form calculation is not there...I have an agent looking into it.

You cannot get away not filing form 8915-F for 2022 tax year even though your overpay IRS the double the taxes for a single one third of your disaster aid for 2021...!
In my opinion, for the 8915-F form where it asked you to enter the amount shown on line 4 from 8915-E (last years) we should be leaving that blank and just checking the box where is says for Corona Virus. This would eliminate the ask for the Disaster Name and FEMA number. If you read the 8915-F form like other people have mentioned it wants the full amount if its anything “other” than the Corona Virus disaster. I still spoke with a Turbo Tax rep. and honestly I don’t think they know what they are doing. They made me enter the amount which prompted the ask for the Disaster name and FEMA number and in the disaster name I put COVID-19 and left the FEMA number blank and it worked. I submitted my taxes and they were accepted. I have a record of the Turbo Tac person telling me that so if anything happens they can handle it.
So form 8915F is now available but it is locked. I cannot update or make any changes to it . It only has my name and SS# and the info is incorrect. I have deleted the form many times and it still will not update. This is so frustrating. I am going to just send it in anyway and amend it later.

There is no direct access to the Form 8915-F. It is populated by you in the interview section of the program. The tax data is first entered on the Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Plan Distributions and Repayment Worksheet. The data from the worksheet flows to the Form 8915-F.
Use this procedure to report the 2nd year of the 2020 distribution on the federal tax return Form 1040 on either Line 4b or Line 5b -
You must go to the Retirement Income section of the program for a Form 1099-R to be able to enter your 2nd year of the 2020 distribution -
Click on Federal
Click on Wages & Income
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click on the Start or Revisit button
On the screen Did you get a 1099-R in 2021? Click on NO, if you did not receive a 2021 Form 1099-R
If you had a Covid-19 related distribution in 2020 and selected to spread the distribution over 3 years -
Answer Yes when asked Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2021?
Answer Yes when asked if you took a Qualified 2020 Disaster Distribution
Check the box that this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020
In the box 2020 Form 8915-E, line 4, column b - Enter a 0
If the 2020 distribution was from an account that was Not an IRA
2020 Form 8915E Line 9 - Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 9
If the 2020 distribution was from an IRA account
2020 Form 8915E Line 17 - Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 17
Do not enter anything in the other boxes, leave them blank (empty)
The 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution will be entered on the 2021 Form 1040 Line 4b if from an IRA or on Line 5b if from a retirement plan other than an IRA
After completing the Wages & Income section you will land on a screen Did you take a disaster distribution at any time between 2018 and 2020?
Answer NO since you have already completed the entering the 1/3 of the 2020 distribution.
The following steps should be used to enter your COVID qualifying distribution. Do Not enter a FEMA code because this doesn't have one. You must have your Form 8915-E from your 2020 tax return.
Okay Thinking i got this figured out
What i did was when last years tax return was tranferred it was showing the 25000 1099r from last year. I deleted it and went through the questions and said no i do not have any of these 1099r, since we did not cash any in this year, asked if i took the prior year, said yes clicked the box it was coronavirus and put 1/3 of the amount on both line 9 boxes. It now does not ask me the FEMA or dates questions and on my 1040 it shows pension amount of 8333.
Getting no errors during the federal review check. Was hoping to pay the remainder this year and not have to deal with this again next year. Nothing is easy when the government is involved.
I think the problem i was having was it brought over the 1099r from last year, once i deleted that, things worked better.
Thanks for all the help here
Mary
I somehow had the full 2020 distribution amount entered at on line 23 of the 2021 Form 8915E-T
Reading the instructions, there should not be anything entered there.
When I changed that to zero, it calculated my 2021 tax correctly as 1/3rd rather than 2/3rd.
Has anyone been able to verify the form 8915-F is reflecting in their tax forms when efiling? I'm using the online version and am not seeing this form.
It is not available. The information does not populate correctly and you still can't file your taxes if you're spreading the 2020 Coronavirus distrib from your 401k plan over 3 years for purposes of tax recognition. It still "wants" a 1099-R which is improper because if you took it in 2020, you will NOT receive a 1099-R for 2021.
Yes I filled and it had form 8915-F attached.
Sorry but one more question for you....were you using the Online TT or a CD version?
Others are reporting they are being told by TT this form won't be available in their online version. Thanks!
