FORM 8915F is no longer a draft on the IRS website. The problem is why is taking Turbo Tax taking so long to implement that form into its software. I believe the date your keeping a secret is March 17th. WTF Turbo Tax. Get on it.
TT updated their "Help" section on this form one week ago and still indicates the form is not available when it has been available since 2/11/2022. They say " Form 8915-F replaces Form 8915-E and will become available later in the tax season." The same thing happened last year and I needed my refund so I filed without completing the form and once available, I filed an amended return before April 15th. I just received my additional refund from the amended return 2 weeks ago! I have used TT for 10 years now, but this is crazy to have to wait for them to update the software - it is now over 2 weeks since the IRS finalized the form.
I just found out I have to turn in financial aid information early this year (March 25th) for my daughter's school. Tax information for 2021 is to be included in that form. I can't believe that it's looking like I won't be able to do that because I'll be waiting on TT to get their stuff together and post this form. Fingers crossed they can get it out the next couple of weeks
I'm owed more than 10K in refunds that I can't get because of this.
@BarryGraham - Because of the IRS not releasing the form until 2 1/2 weeks ago? If it's $10,000 then go to an accountant and pay $450 or so. Otherwise wait. Who can decide that for you? I am not sure what how the face that you wildly over withhold your estimated taxes has to do with this thread?
@Gtrib21 You can turn in FAFSA with just W2s etc. and then update it when you file. Google "file FAFSA without income taxes"
@mcnamern They mean in their software which means that they are working on it. So thanks for the good news.
It has everything to do with the thread. If I needed or wanted an accountant then I would use one. My estimation accuracy is not relevant. It would take far longer to prepare and explain everything to an accountant. Intuit's delay is causing hardship to people. It's not for anyone to minimize our concerns.
It was saying 3/5 on H&R Block site, and they just moved it up a day, so that seems promising. I would expect for H&R and TT to release same time or very close to.
I am not able to get anything in their help section to call up regarding this new form. Guess my search criteria isn't quite right? I'm just inputting the form #....
@BarryGraham You don't need an accountant if you are not in a rush. Your choice. If you need it 6 weeks before filing deadline then a DIY product may not be best for you. Intuit had the form ready 02/26/2021 last year. I get it, it is frustrating when I assume how a company is going to perform and I make decisions on incomplete knowledge.
I knew they didn't have the form ready until March last year before I purchased their service this year. I mean let's be frank, did you even know that the IRS was going to revamp the 8915 series of forms so completely and not release then until first week of February? I didn't.
Put the blame where it goes, the IRS and it's ridiculous tax code.
My thoughts as well. I bet both TT and HR&Block have the 8915-F ready and incorporated in their Agent's Computer Software since mid February and even earlier...! So if you are desperate and impatient, you have to go to their physical office and for a fee they fill the form, and file your return electronically... IRS has specified the form is e-file-able so they are delaying to roll it over to public in order to milk the customers as much as possible...!
I went into H&R office today and the lady swore that the form was in their software. I don't know whether she knew what she was talking about. She said that it hit their system on 2/25. Hopefully, TT is right behind----if true.
My experience is that you cannot count on the TT "experts". By the time you call them, you've normally been doing some research on the subject and have reached an impasse. The "experts" then proceed to tell you obvious things that you already know and when it comes for the information you actually need to clarify - they have no clue. Utterly frustrating. I'm soooooo less than impressed with TT this year. It also makes me wonder why I ever paid for this "expert" help that has not actually helped on a single occasion. I'm guessing that if it ever came to needing "audit support" that I keep paying for that they would be equally useless. Sorry to be so negative, but TT promises a lot and it's frustrating that they cannot deliver on even the basic and simple things.
Do you guys know once we can file with the 8915-F; can we pay the remaining 2/3s in 2022 filing year instead of waiting for the final 1/3 in 2023 filing year?
