For me it relates back to 2016 Harvey flood that I still had to pay taxes of, and no penalties on because we in mid 60’s as we withdre funds to rebuild and no insurance and no federal hand out outs for us. We received no benefits from even claiming so why even need this form in 2021
Totally agree. My cousin works for federal government and now travels all over the world for a year. Gets paid full time pay, benefits and works minutes everyday. He’ll check his emails, sir, go fishing, be gone come back, go out and repeat the same for days. Oh, he’s got a brand new house due to his high end pay with federal government too. Happy for him, but he don’t do nothing per his job. Not that I’m jealous or anything like that it’s just that he’ll stay here months to avoid paying utilities. Must be nice to make big bucks for Uncle Sam.
Can I file now without the 8915-F form, then amend my tax return after the form becomes available?
Am I wrong or was this form posted 2/2 at IRS.gov/latestforms?

But the instructions are not available since they are still in draft mode.
So the final release of the form is posted but we’re waiting on the instructions?
Yes, that’s what I’m getting from it all.

The instructions and the e-file specifications (schema) (if the IRS makes the form e-fileable). The IRS then needs to program its computer to accept the new form and end to end test with e-file providers. That can take up to 4 weeks after the paper form is released.

I don't recommend that. You will have to wait until they fully process your return before you can file an amendment. Last year it took the IRS over 6 months to do that. In the meantime, you could owe penalties on any tax owed. (Not professional advice, just my personal experience from tax year 2020.)
Looks like the instructions finalized 2/3 so now we just wait for TurboTax to get everything loaded into their system. I agree With the previous answer. I wouldn’t recommend filing without the form and then amending as amended taxes get the lowest priority by the IRS.. my friend waited months last year! Just wait hopefully we will be able to file by next week!
IRS form 8915F has been released by IRS, updated, not draft, TurboTax has not updated their website, call numerous times. What’s going on TurboTax ????
Money came out of our own 401K, not government handouts
Last year, form 8915e wasn’t available until like 2/12 and TurboTax didn’t have it until 2/24 .. I’m honestly hoping it’s sooner but I know its going to take them some time to get everything loaded in their system!
Once the IRS finalizes that form the IRS must then write the e-file specifications (schema) for TurboTax (and all other e-file providers) to program from. That usually takes 2-3 weeks after the paper form is finalized. Then the providers must submit their form to the IRS for approval and end to end testing before it can be released. The IRS must also progrem their own computers to accept the new form. All that takes time.
I just pulled the 8915-F from the IRS website and it looks like it is ready to go. Hopefully that means the form will be available soon on Turbo Tax, I am not able to find it yet ???
