I filed an extension before 15 April…..wondering how much leeway I have for e-filing my final 2018 tax files.

You can efile 2018 until Oct 15. After that you will have to print and mail it. If you are getting a refund there is no penalty for filing late. You have 3 years to Filipe for a refund. If you have a tax due you can file late but any payment was still due by April 15.
The deadline to e-file a 2018 return is October 15, 2019. That is also the date your extension gives you to file by. If you are getting a refund there is no penalty for filing after the deadline. If you owe more tax due then you will be subject to penalty and interest if you miss the October deadline. After 10-15-2019 a 2018 return will have to be printed, signed and mailed since e-filing will shut down.
When you requested your extension you were supposed to pay your estimated tax due. Did you enter the payment you made into your tax return? Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Estimates and Other Taxes Paid>Other Income Taxes
