W-2 Box 11 glitch?

If you answer "no" to the question, the amount won't move to Schedule1, line t" where I think the IRS wants to see it!

W-2 Box 11 glitch?

That is the only thing that worked for me.  Checking the box for contribution.

W-2 Box 11 glitch?

I followed the "rounding" solution others said worked but it did NOT work today 3/16/24. I deleted the entire W-2, reentered the data manually without any decimal or cents, and I still get the same error message "Nonqualified Distribution (State ID) does not match with any states entered in Box 15. Box 15-20 are supposed to be blank. Typing in my home state ID to box 15 does not solve the problem, nor does leaving Box 11 state ID blank. This is clearly a programming error that affects many people and has still not been fixed after I called Turbotax yesterday 3/15/24, and the rep could not help me but said she'd relay my problem to the technical department.

I'm concerned about deliberately checking the wrong box: "No, this is money I contributed to my nonqualified or Section 457 plan." to get the error message to go away since all of us on this thread with this same problem are in the situation of "Yes, I took this money out of my nonqualified or Section 457 plan," which is what I checked.  By checking the incorrect No box, what else does that affect in the tax return? We shouldn't be having to "trick" the program to get the nonsensical error message to go away. Turbotax should fix the programming problem. especially by now since people have been reporting the exact same error for weeks without it being fixed by the date Turbotax said it would. I am using Turbotax Premier desktop for PC.

W-2 Box 11 glitch?

The glitch should be fixed by now.

Someone else in the discussion thread suggested the rounding approach.

It did work for me (using desktop version for Mac).

I agree with you that it does not make sense to check the wrong box as a work-around.

Even though the bottom line might be the same, it would make me uncomfortable.

Don't know what to tell you.

Assume that you have installed most recent updates.

Wondering if you can file the return even if Turbotax says that there is an error.

Good luck!

W-2 Box 11 glitch?

The glitch is still there for TT Premier Desktop for PC. The phone rep yesterday said she'd elevate the issue and call me today, and it is now 3.5 hours after the time she promised to call me and she hasn't called.  I had also called 2 days ago to report the same error, and that rep also said I'd get a callback and I haven't. Customer service is disappointing. Since this is a known glitch, I don't know why it still isn't fixed.

I cannot efile my return with the error for W-2 Box 11 StateID code. If I were to follow other people's workaround and check the wrong box: "No, this is money I contributed to my nonqualified or Section 457 plan." to get the error message to go away, the W-2 Box 11 income moves to 1040, line 1a instead of Line 8 (where it is supposed to be).  Also Schedule 1 disappears because Schedule 1 line 8t is populated only if you check "Yes, I took this money out of my nonqualified or Section 457 plan," which is the correct answer.  The "No" workaround results in incorrect 1040 entries, even if the end-result taxable income and tax is the same. If this programming error doesn't get fixed, the program won't let me efile. I'd have to paper file by mail, which defeats a lot of the value of paying for Turbotax. Since so many others in various states already reported this glitch from January, I don't know why I still get the error message as I have done all the updates to the Turbotax.

W-2 Box 11 glitch?

This problem with W-2 box 11 is still not fixed as of 3/23/24.  I don’t understand why Turbo Tax hasn’t corrected the software. It worked fine last year with respect to distributions from non-qualified plans, including for PA which does not tax them. This is very frustrating as time is running out.

W-2 Box 11 glitch?

This is a workaround I got from Tom, a tax expert at Intuit after calling the 3rd time and asking to be transferred to someone at a higher level than the specialists who answer the calls. In box 11(a), instead of putting your home state ID (such as PA), type in TX. Texas has no income tax. This deletes the error message and TX doesn't actually show up anywhere on your Federal 1040. I could then efile.  However, I don't know what effect this might have on your state tax form. I had already printed out my state form to mail (not efile) before I did the TX workaround entry.  BTW, for my home state, at the time I did the state return earlier, Turbotax incorrectly did NOT subtract my W-2 nonqualified pension from my AGI, so I had to force that entry. I reported this error to Intuit also, but have no idea if/when they will fix. Since time IS running out, use the TX workaround to efile Federal 1040 and carefully check your state return for the proper exclusion of pension from state AGI. Because I called 3 times to report the error, I was told they are aware and "working on it" so hopefully next year it is fixed before we all have to waste so much of our time debugging the program. Good luck, hope this helps.

W-2 Box 11 glitch?

Thank you so much Jl-808! I really appreciate the work around that you provided. It does put my federal return where it needs to be (with my income from a non qualified plan in line 8 on my 1040, from Schedule 1.)  I’ll be sure to check the impact on my PA return. Thank you so much!
