Get your taxes done using TurboTax
This is a workaround I got from Tom, a tax expert at Intuit after calling the 3rd time and asking to be transferred to someone at a higher level than the specialists who answer the calls. In box 11(a), instead of putting your home state ID (such as PA), type in TX. Texas has no income tax. This deletes the error message and TX doesn't actually show up anywhere on your Federal 1040. I could then efile. However, I don't know what effect this might have on your state tax form. I had already printed out my state form to mail (not efile) before I did the TX workaround entry. BTW, for my home state, at the time I did the state return earlier, Turbotax incorrectly did NOT subtract my W-2 nonqualified pension from my AGI, so I had to force that entry. I reported this error to Intuit also, but have no idea if/when they will fix. Since time IS running out, use the TX workaround to efile Federal 1040 and carefully check your state return for the proper exclusion of pension from state AGI. Because I called 3 times to report the error, I was told they are aware and "working on it" so hopefully next year it is fixed before we all have to waste so much of our time debugging the program. Good luck, hope this helps.
