Unable to enter data for SSA-1099

I just downloaded and installed TurboTax 2024 Deluxe desktop on Mac. I transfered my 2023 data. Right now the only tax form I have received is my SSA-1099 and I want to enter it. I am on the page pictured below. When I click "Update" on the Social Security line, nothing happens, TurboTax stays on this page. Is the relevant form not yet available?

You might have a form that transferred over from last year.  Switch to Forms Mode and delete the SSA-1099 and the supporting details for it.  Try the solutions in this post started 12/30/24

Yes that fixed it, thank you! It's a shame that post didn't show up when I searched for my problem.

going to FORMS is a work around.  The bug is in the Step by Step which just skips over SS and you  cannot force it.  PLEASE FIX THE BUG

Other users who experienced this issue found that the following workarounds resolved it:

 

 - If you transferred 2023 Social Security information to your 2024 return: try deleting the Social Security form that transferred over. Look for Social Sec in the list of Forms in Forms Mode, open it and click on Delete Form at the bottom. 

 

- If you have a supporting details entry for Box 5 of Line A: Remove the supporting details sheet and return to Step by Step, and the interview process goes forward as normal.  

 

-Users have been able to make the needed entries for 2024 in Forms mode.

 

I have been able to enter Social Security in step-by-step on my Mac where I don't have a prior year transfer with Social Security. 

 

I am making a follow-up request to look into this issue.

Unable to enter data for SSA-1099

In order for us to troubleshoot this issue, you could choose to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If possible, send both 2023 and 2024 diagnostic files.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Desktop users:

 

  1. From the black bar at the top of your screen, select Online
  2. Click Send Tax File to Agent
  3. Click Send on the message that pops up
  4. TurboTax will create a "sanitized" copy of your return information with no personal info
  5. Post the 7-digit token number here in this thread

 

Here are the instructions for TurboTax Online users: 

 

Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools. 

  1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools. 
  2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.  
  3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent. 
  4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number. 
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number. Please also state what version of TurboTax you are using. I just tried it in Home & Business on a return that also had SSA transferred from 2023 and it worked. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.  

 

We will then be able to review your file to see what you are seeing, and we can confirm the issue and better inform tech support to reach a resolution.
