Your post is showing you are using the TurboTax Deluxe online edition at $59. If you also included a state tax return that is an additional $59. And if you requested to have the TurboTax account fees paid from the federal tax refund there is a $39 service charge for that option. That would total $157 then add any applicable sales tax to arrive at the total charge.
The TurboTax Free online edition is for very simple tax returns that do not require any other form or schedule other than the Form 1040. If your tax data requires entry on any other form or schedule then you must upgrade to the Deluxe edition or higher.
If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2022 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.
I literally selected 39.99 for my federal and 39.99 for my state. So you’re telling me that even though I was asked and selected 39.99 that TurboTax went ahead and charged me 59.99 for federal and state?
The price increased from the early filer discounted price to the standard price on March 1.
So then it’s fraud. Because I selected 39, not 59. How can they charge an amount that I didn’t select?
It’s not like I just assumed the amount. I was given the price option and hit select. So again, you’re telling me that even though I selected the 39 option, they go ahead and charge 59? How is that legal?
Don't know.
....but if you selected 39 Federal and 39 state before March 1., and then PAID for it all before March 1st (even if you didn't file at that time)..Then your payment would have been locked-in as-is with no further charges. (unless you upgraded to a higher version later, or added another state later)
Where did you select $39 and when?
On this TurboTax website for the online editions is the current pricing - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/deluxe.jsp
And here - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/compare/online/
Deluxe was $39 federal and $39 for state before March 1. You could have paid then to lock in the early price. Price is determined at the time you pay or print or file.
See the Terms of Service for Online versions. Scroll way down to 2.3 Pricing
https://turbotax.intuit.com/corp/license/online.jsp
"Pricing for the various versions of the Services is determined based on the time when you pay to use a version of the Services. Depending on the version you choose, this will occur either when starting your use of the Services, when the preparation of your return is complete, or when your return is otherwise ready to be printed or filed....."
Online with TurboTax is where I selected the 39. Trying to get in touch with a live person is impossible. I truly don’t understand how I clicked 39 but then was charged 59.
@amymcgrath Fees increased on March 1. If you started your return before the fee increase, it may have been $39 then; but if you did not pay before March 1 to lock in the early discounted fee, you were subject to the fee increase that became effective March 1.

What is Refund Processing Service?
There was a price increase on March 1. Read all the posts above about it. And state is always a separate additional charge. Click on State Additional under the amounts on this page
So TurboTax was still showing and letting me select, as in I clicked on the $39 option, on March 12th, but in reality that was false advertisement and I get charged $59. Seems legit. Good deal. Guess that’s one way to scheme people out of money. Show them one price, but charge more.
Sounds like a cookie from some 3rd party didn't get activated (or was deactivated later)...if that was the price on 12 March. Sometimes, accessing TTX thru a Bank's link, like USAA, or a broker's link, like Fidelity get you extra discount that shows. Some folks with cookie blockers end up losing the discount...or aggressive browser safety setting will lose it (some folks have been having particular problems with the Brave browser blocking stuff, until they shut down that browser's aggressive setting)
