RE: TurboTax Premier for WIndows Download Version:
Under Investment Income (I assume) section what 1099B selection would I choose for Bitcoin? There are 5 options, which one would be for a Bitcoin 1099B ? Nothing even suggests Crypto? I'm guessing the one that says: Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other ??
One would ASSUME that as soon as you answer "YES" to the CRYPTO question when starting up there would be further steps to take to deal with CRYPTO while preparing your taxes.
The product listing below keeps saying ONLINE VERSION no matter how many times I try to change it. It is the WINDOWS DOWNLOAD VERSION
I have very little income other than Social Security and a small pension and about the ONLY thing I need to do is enter BITCOIN info but after paying out my bazoo for PREMIER because all the advertising says PREMIER is REQUIRED for CRYPTO (I have always used FREE or BASIC) that it would step me through entering CRYPTO details.
I see absolutely no step by step for CRYPTO (or am I missing something). Yes, software is up to date.
Maybe my 75yr old eyes are fooling me ?

Will this help? How to import or enter cryptocurrency
Other is correct ... follow the interview screens to enter in the summaries of the sales instead of the individual sales ... see the steps below.
Only the TurboTax Online Premier and Self-employed versions allow you to import cryptocurrency.
One option is to start a free tax return in TurboTax Premier Online. You don't pay for the return until you file it, so you won't have to pay the Online fee. Enter (import) your cryptocurrency information in the Crypto section, and then save the .tax file (not PDF). You can then open the tax file in TurboTax desktop, add the rest of your tax data and file.
The other option would be to file using the Online software and get a refund for the desktop program.

You can quickly enter this manually. Your brokerage statements should include a summary of your transactions, grouped by sales category.
There are seven possible "Box" designations that indicate the holding period (Long/Short Term) and the reporting status. These are the only ones you have to summarize. If you want to manually enter your 1099-B as the summaries.
Code A. This code indicates a short-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is being reported to the IRS. Use this code to report a transaction that the recipient will report on Schedule D (Form 1040), line 1a, or on Form 8949 with box A checked with totals being carried to Schedule D (Form 1040), line 1b.
Code B. This code indicates a short-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is not being reported to the IRS. Use this code to report a transaction that the recipient will report on Form 8949 with box B checked with totals being carried to Schedule D (Form 1040), line 2.
Box C. Report on a Part I with box C checked all short-term transactions for which you can't check box A or B because you didn't receive a Form 1099-B (or substitute statement).
Code D. This code indicates a long-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is being reported to the IRS. Use this code to report a transaction that the recipient will report on Schedule D (Form 1040), line 8a, or on Form 8949 with box D checked with totals being carried to Schedule D (Form 1040), line 8b.
Code E. This code indicates a long-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is not being reported to the IRS. Use this code to report a transaction that the recipient will report on Form 8949 with box E checked, with totals being carried to Schedule D (Form 1040), line 9.
Box F. Report on a Part II with box F checked all long-term transactions for which you can't check box D or E because you didn't receive a Form 1099-B (or substitute statement).
Code X. Use this code to report a transaction if you cannot determine whether the recipient should check box B or box E on Form 8949 because the holding period is unknown.
Open or continue your return (if it's not already open) and search inside TurboTax for the phrase stock sales.
When you are done, you'll eventually come to the Here's a summary of your broker sales screen where you can edit, delete, or enter more sales.
It would if that worked. :). I found that help faq weeks ago and the steps do not work. The listed responses don’t happen. No cryptic refs at all even close to what was listed.
Crypto is entered just like any stock ... same place same way.

Thank you for your info. Now wouldn't have been nice if they included or if they somewhere did include it make it quite clear in the online advertising I have been bombed with for months? Googling around, I now see this same thing went down last year. One would think they would have learned their lesson unless that was the intent.

You are assuming I have used TT for stocks before. 😀
@Critter-3 wrote:One option is to start a free tax return in TurboTax Premier Online.
Sadly, after about 50 (slight hyperbole (sorry Joe) ) attempts the ONLINE version keeps failing when I try to import my 2021 data which means I have to start from scratch. The data is minimal and has no problem loading into TT 2021 and resaving again as new and still fails. LOL, I could have paid $40 more and just have some guy at Walmart do it. 😀😀
EDIT: All this PITA effort for a $163 loss. 🙂 I failed to mention in the OP that I used Koinly to get tasax forms etc. Had 93 transactions so I got into their cheap tier. 🙂
Where is your 2021 data file? Did you use the Desktop program last year? There is a way.
You can only import crypto into the Online version. For Desktop program you can start a free Premier online return to import it then switch and open your return in the Desktop program. But that would involve starting a new Desktop return and starting over.
Since you have to start a new blank Online return you can start the Online return by transferring 2021 from your computer if you used the Turbo Tax Desktop program last year. Then download the crypto and move the online return to the Desktop program.
If you used the Desktop program last year here’s How to transfer into the Online version. You need to have the prior year .tax2021 file on your computer. Expand the link if you used the CD/download last year........

If you used the Online version last year it should automatically transfer 2021. You need to log into the same exact account.

Just been there, done that. Online version failed with multiple attempts to import 2021 Desktop data. Data is good because I reloaded, resaved it in TT 2021.
LOL. I am getting bombarded with "badges" for every message I post, read, scan! Makes me feel "special." I guess "badges" are like "likes". So silly.
