TurboTax literally just fixed the program on 3/5 to now prompt for the 1095-A ... this was NOT part of the original program and all those who missed putting in the 1095-A are only 95% to blame for the failure to report it. Sadly the user must take some responsibility for not entering a form that the ACA sent to them with specific instructions to enter it on the return ... if the user could not find where to enter it on their own then they should have asked for assistance ... I and others have been answering this question in the forum since Dec 1.
The information was solely provided in an effort to help you resolve the issue. There was never an intent to place you at fault.
No they did not. I had the form right in from of me the whole time i was filing. This is not my first rodeo and I have been doing my own taxes since I started working @16. They did not ONCE ask for that Form as I was prepared for them to ask. I knew that it was not needed for obama care anymore, but I had it with me just in case. Because hey, chances are if insurance company is mailing to me I might actually need it. Go figure.
For people who filed early this was not a question that was asked. They probably updated it after thousands of complaints from people who are now getting letters from the IRS that we were suppose to have it.
AGAIN ... the program was changed just 2 days ago to ask for the 1095-A for everyone ... so all the people who filed earlier were NOT prompted to enter the information ... TT is 95% to blame for removing the Health Insurance tab that stopped EVERYONE for the last 6 years cold turkey and did not have one single question about the ACA in the program ( I looked many many times) ... but they do ask everyone if they want to donate $3 to the presidential election fund ... that useless question must be more important.
All the TT employees need to understand that this was a recent fix that could have should have been avoided and/or fixed weeks ago.
NOW to the users .... the 1095-A was either mailed to you or available for download and came with these instructions on page 1 (of 7 pages) ... so if you did not see or could not find where to enter that information you should have either used the search box or post a question in this forum where the instructions would have been given freely ... as the user of a DIY program you must take at least a little responsibility for failing to follow the instructions on the notice you got ... and for those who have had Obamacare in the past you really have no excuse for missing this form especially if you had one in hand. When you signed up for that insurance the instructions to file a 8962 form was also mentioned.
@LeonardS it absolutely did NOT say anything about the tax form when I filed in January!
@LeonardS was just giving info to those reading this thread now ... his comment was not meant for anyone who filed earlier.
@Critter I get that but they need to take responsibility for the people who filed early and got screwed
If you paid to file on TurboTax and you're caught up in this mess, definitely file a BBB complaint. The business name is Intuit, Inc. A TT rep from the "office of the president" called me the very next day regarding the complaint, I didn't have to explain a thing, she said they would process my $40 refund and I received it last week. Of course, I'm still waiting for the IRS refund.
Also for anyone having issues filling out the form, I clicked to ammend my return got the 1095 entered, new forms generated, did the preview printed them then canceled the ammendment.
Here is how to get the form 8962 filled out. Please note: You are NOT going to amend your return and you are NOT going to add a state return. These directions are quirky but will get the job done.
The IRS may adjust your refund once they receive your form 8962.
I feel exactly the same way. I am so dissatisfied. How can I trust them now??
I just realized this issue to. I was wondering why my return was “still processing.” I received my state refund quick after I filled on 2/3. So do I have to wait for a letter from the IRS to fix this?????
@Tdavid That is correct , you should soon receive a Letter 12 c from the IRS . once you receive the letter it would be wise to follow the letters instructions exactly to avoid any further delays. You will likely be asked for a copy of your 1095A which should have been mailed to you from the marketplace, and you will use that information on the 1095 to create a 8962. The software can help with this @Critter has posted the step a few times before. Be aware that the process can take up to 8 weeks for you to receive your refund. I am a Texas user and if my transcript refund date is correct then my processing time would have only been 4 weeks( we will know on the 23rd)
@Tdavid yes, you will need to wait for a letter from the IRS before you proceed with fixing the issue. Once the IRS has contacted you, please click The IRS is requesting Form 8962 for 2019 to move forward.
i filed a complaint with bbb and Whitney from turdo tax called back just to say NO REFUND of your fees! it did not ask for 1095-A, but if i looked to where it was needed it would ask! i am still waiting for tax refund to bank. turdo tax sucks ass.
