Can you please tell me why I am being charged for an easy return??  It stated that “File free” until 3/31/2022?  I am not able to get anyone on chat or an answer through TurboTax!!  Sheesh!!

Agreed. It says free to file the easy return but then dinged me for a federal charge, plus the two states I lived in. What's up TurboTax?

I have always used Turbo Tax for about 30 years, always was a pleasure. This year I have no way to declare the sell of a Rental Property. This year is a piece of CRAP. On Monday if this situation continue  I will look for a Tax Office and Good Bye

We can ask someone to help you with the sale of a rental property.   There are 2 important questions to ask first:

1. What product version are you using--are you using Online TurboTax  or desktop software (CD/download)?
2. And which edition are you using--Deluxe, Premier, Self-Employed/Home and Business?    If you are using Online TurboTax, you'd need to be in Premier or higher.   All of the desktop editions can handle sale of a rental property.

If you had any item in your return that requires the use of Federal Schedules 1-3, the program requires an upgrade to Deluxe or higher.   I'll explain below what can be handled by Free Edition and Live Basic (which is essentially the limited Free Edition plus help from a live tax expert.)

A simple tax return is Form 1040 only.

Here are situations covered by the free product :

• W-2 income
• Limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV
• Claiming the standard deduction
• Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC)
• Child tax credits
• Student Loan Interest deduction

Situations not covered in TurboTax Free Edition (and Live Basic) include:

• Itemized deductions
• Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G
• Business or 1099-NEC income
• Stock sales
• Rental property income
• Credits, deductions and income reported on schedules 1-3

If you had to upgrade and could not use the Free Edition (or Live Basic), another option to get free tax return preparation is is to go to the IRS Free File website and choose a participating provider there.   Look through all the choices carefully, since some have different requirements  Some include state returns, but some only prepare certain states, so be sure your state is listed when you choose a preparer.

Hi,

I am trying to file my business taxes for TX using the TurboTax Business Desktop version for 2021. I am getting the same error as other on this message board. Please let me know if this problem is affecting the TX due to forms not being available for e-filing and when would they be available.

Oh my!  Don’t understand why you are asking me… I am just another victim of TurboTax!!  I have used them for a couple of years and never had a problem. However, this year has been a nightmare!  Their employees are trained and send you on a wild goose chase… only to call back. Get someone different of course, and then they tell that it is fixed, next day same crap!!  I have been so frustrated… and then they end up charging me for something I never used!!  Good Bye..TurboTax… Get your act together!  Must have put all your energy into all the ads and TV commercials!
