I'm using the desktop download version and in reviewing my printed returns, I see there is no checkmark on Schedule D Line 22. I do have both capital gains and qualified dividends, and last year the software placed an automatic checkmark on the Schedule D Line 22 that said "yes" for "I have qualified dividends on Form 1040, Line 3a." Since TurboTax didn't automatically put a checkmark there this year, I went to look at forms view, and it wouldn't allow me to manually place a checkmark there. However, TurboTax does figure my tax on the capital gain/qualified dividend worksheet, so I guess all is well in spite of that.
The error check is OK so I guess it's not significant that the D Line 22 is not answered. I just found it odd that TurboTax made the entry last year but not this year, and won't let me do it either.

Are the Yes boxes checked on Schedule D lines 17 and 20? If so, the tax is calculated on the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet, and Schedule D line 22 is not used.
You must have had a different situation on Schedule D last year, which did require going to line 22.

You win the prize! That's it! Yes, Schedule D lines 17 and 20 do have checkmarks. And yes, it was due to a different situation. Last year I had an overall loss, this year a gain. And I now noticed the tiny print after the line 20 "yes" checkmark that says specifically "Don't complete lines 21 and 22 below."
So everything is working correctly. That explains it. Thanks!
According to the IRS, the answers may be incorrect. I have the exact same situation for my 2023 taxes and let Turbotax use the Schedule D Tax Worksheet to calculate my tax due. However, the IRS corrected my taxes when I filed with the Schedule D Tax Worksheet tax. The IRS corrected my return to use the Qualified Dividends and Schedule D Tax Worksheet and this resulted in $8000 less tax owed.
I confirmed this by overriding line 22 in schedule D so Turbotax uses the Qualified Dividends and Schedule D Tax Worksheet to calculate my tax and now the Turbotax calculation for tax owed matches the IRS calculation for tax owed Qualified Dividends and Schedule D Tax Worksheet . Still Turbotax continues to use the Schedule D Tax Worksheet to calculate my tax. How can I override Turbotax to use Qualified Dividends and Schedule D Tax Worksheet for my tax?
My bet is on Turbotax doing this incorrectly and the IRS is right.
I'm in the same situation. How does one push this up to the TurboTax support folks?
