We are married filing jointly, taking standard deduction. I entered my wife's W2 which was just slightly higher than last year and my social security income. which also included a very slight increase. We pay Maine state tax. We also had my wife's HR dept. deduct over the amount required for Fed income tax. However, the refund shows less than $100 dollars. Last year, it indicated an approximately $3000 refund. Where is the application of the standard deduction? Should that not have lowered the income amount significantly and raised the refund amount? Something doesn't seem right?

If you have the Desktop program switch to Forms and look at the 1040. The Standard Deduction is on line 12a. Compare this year to last year line by line.
More income can make more of the Social Security taxable.
Once you have entered all of your income you will go through the deductions section and TurboTax will decide whether to itemize or take the standard deduction. It will be applied at that point.
If the program has set your deduction to itemized instead of standard in error you can change it back.
If you are still seeing a dramatic change in your refund after that point you may want to have a TurboTax expert review your return with you. You can connect with the expert through your online TurboTax account or click here for information on how to connect.
