I was working on a 2016 return in TurboTax and had nearly completed the Federal portion, and saved it. When I went to reopen the return to continue, I saw a brief flash to say that TurboTax had encountered a problem and could not open the file. There appeared to be a box to recover the lost work, but this did not seem to work. Now I can only return to a blank return. Is there any way of recovering the lost effort?

Are you using Windows or Mac? Do you have the file ending in .tax2016 on your computer?
Though you seem to be able to get in:
If you are using a Windows device...a few users have had partially installed Windows updates waiting for a reboot (two were issued this week) and that was blocking the full operation of the tax software. Try a full computer re-boot and then see what happens.
IF it's a MAC, then we might have to get one of the MAC people involved.
