Turbo tax does not know when my income came in nor the deductions to do a Form 2210 as an exception to the estimate penalty. How do I override so I can put the correct penalty . In the past I have always been able to do this
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
It's the same as before. If you get a penalty on 1040 line 38, you might be able to eliminate it or at least reduce it. You can go to Federal Taxes tab or Personal tab, under Other Tax Situations and select Start by the Underpayment Penalties. You will answer a series of questions that may reduce or eliminate the penalty. Or you can elect to have the IRS figure the penalty for you. It's form 2210.

It's under
Federal or Personal (for Home & Business Desktop)
Other Tax Situations
Additional Tax Payments
Underpayment Penalties - Click the Start or update button
You can go to Federal Taxes tab or Personal tab, under Other Tax Situations and select Start by the Underpayment Penalties......
What are you talking about? My Turbo tax menus do not have any of these tabs...I have it on my computer ...it is not online...I have file, edit, view, etc. None of these have what you are talking about...So be detailed in your answer....Have the Premier Turbo Tax which was downloaded to my computer....NOT ONLINE.
Under the top menu line with File, Edit, View etc. there is a second line with tabs for Personal Info, Federal, State, Review and File. Are you on Windows or Mac? Like here is the Mac Desktop program.
I found a screen shot of Windows Premier tabs
all desktop versions allow for the annualized income method for the 2210.
WARNING: if you override any line or form in Turbotax, you will not be able to e-file.
click on the Federal Taxes Tab. Below that you should see"Other Tax situations". Click on that. In the section for "Additional Tax Payments" click on the "Underpayment of Penalties" link. Answer the questions or click on the links on the following pages. Eventually, you'll come to a page that says "Annualized Income Method". Click yes to use this method.
if "No" Turbotax will ask other questions that relate to items A through E in part II of the 2210
if you have withholding you can use either 1/4 for each period or the actual withholding for that period (that's a different section than above)
Its Windows like the last screen shot.
I just want to override the penalty......
If you just override the penalty without completing form 2210, the IRS is going to refigure it for you back to the original amount shown.
You need to file form 2210 to explain why the penalty should be reduced.
You can select to leave it off and let the IRS calculate it and send you a bill.
Obviously none of you have experience working with the IRS. If you leave it off the likely chance of it being picked up is 0 to none. And if it is then I will deal with it. Your product is a fraud since you can't override as in the past when one had a CD. You keep avoiding the question ...how do I over ride your entry. Just give the detail way to do it. You are not signing the return. Just answer the question and why is it not listed in FAQs.
Hello
Is someone going to give me a step by step way of overriding turbo tax and eliminating the filing of Form 2210.
Your FAQs should do this but it doesn't and the community index does not make it easy to find an answer...Where is AI when you need it?
You can delete the Form 2210 by selecting "Delete Form" when you have the form open.
To avoid having TurboTax calculate the penalty, you could go to the Underpayment Penalties section under Other Tax Situations, Additional Tax Payments, and start or update the questionnaire.
When you get to the screen "Possible Penalty Exceptions", you could select "Answer yes to all questions" so that TurboTax will proceed as if you have an exception and won't calculate the penalty.
Every year I pay estimated taxes so that total taxes paid are the same as the previous year. That means there should be no penalty, but Intuit added a penalty nevertheless. Is this a penalty because I didn't "register" my desktop software? I can find no way to override the error, and I cannot file a form which says the software added the amount incorrectly. Why do I have to fight against tax prep software to get my taxes correct? Can I get a refund for the fact that I am no longer allowed to eFile if I correct the erroneous penalty?
