My return keeps getting rejected. Can someone please help me fix it?

If you have indicated that you do NOT have a 1095-A, make sure all references to Form 1095-A have been deleted.   After removing the previously started Form 1095-A from your return, re-submit your tax return.  If it gets rejected again (after removing the 1095-A) then that means someone (maybe a family member) has included your name and SSN on a Marketplace health insurance plan and are receiving the advanced premium tax credits for that health plan.   @Destiny23   @lisac66 - See instructions below.

To delete the 1095-A from TurboTax, when you are signed into your tax return:

  1. Search for 1095-A or search for 1095-a and use the Jump to 1095-a link to be taken to the questions.

  2. Answer the question about unemployment and the next screen will show your 1095-A that was started.

  3. Use the Delete button or the trash can icon depending on your version to delete the form.

  4. Confirm the deletion.

*** You can also delete the form in Forms Mode, if using the desktop software or by clicking on Tax Tools (left side menu) >>> Tools >>> Delete a form in TurboTax Online.

delete 1095-a.png

Once the form is gone, TurboTax will accept a NO answer and you can then re-submit your tax return.

Use the healthcare.gov portal to verify what forms are on file for each social security number on your tax return.   It could be one of your dependents that has erroneously been listed on another policy you are unaware of.   If you do not have an account, it only take a few minutes to create one.

My return keeps getting rejected. Can someone please help me fix it?

how should i input things into the software if my ex-wife got the marketplace coverage for all the children but they are my dependents from a tax perspective?

You will still need to enter the 1095-A on your return.  You and your ex-wife can allocate the premiums any way you both agree on.  If she is paying the entire premium, then she can take 100% and you can take 0%.  You will both need to indicate that this is a shared policy, then you will be given the option to allocate the premiums and for which months it was a shared policy.

Once you enter the 1095-A on your return, it should be accepted by the IRS.

My return keeps getting rejected. Can someone please help me fix it?

I have the same issue but I forgot to include the form and I’m getting the same message. But when it says “fix it now” I click and it just takes me to the refile page

My return keeps getting rejected. Can someone please help me fix it?

Followed these steps, confirmed in the Tax tool in my turbotax account that there is NO any 1095a or 8692 forms. and also, after selecting No to "Did you receive from 1095a for your health insurance plan?" I did not revisit the page so it will not turn YES again. Refiled my tax return, 23 minutes later I am getting the Federal tax file got rejected in my email and turbotax notification. Help me/direct me to the right direction here.

I don't get e Form 1095-A, I get a Form 1095-B because I have insurance through my employer.

So why is my return being rejected due to "The e-File database indicates that Form 8962 or a binary attachment with description containing "ACA Explanation" must be present in the return."? I already went back through the Medical Steps and started over, answering "No" to the 1095-A question.

I've been dealing with the same thing since I originally tried to file at the end of January.

You are correct forms 1095-B and 1095-C do not need to be filed and should be kept with your tax records.  Please check the interview section and also manually delete any Form 1095-A and/or Form 8962 forms in the return.

When our interview section Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A) for the Marketplace insurance reaches the screen Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan? it will default to "Yes"If you select "No" and Continue, it will not generate any Form 8962 information into your return. If you come back, it will default to "Yes" again, but it remained the "No" you selected until the time you came back into the area. This is as it should be.

In TurboTax Online, to be sure there is not a partially completed form in TurboTax, please check here to delete the form from your return. This will delete both the form and the entries. Please check for any Form 1095-A and also Form 8962.

  • To Delete a Form go black menu bar on the left
  • Click on Tax Tools
  • Click on Tools
  • Under Other helpful links, click on Delete a Form
  • Scroll down and check for 1095-A or 8962 and if there is one, click on Delete
  • Click on the blue Delete Selected Form
  • At the bottom Continue
  • At the bottom Continue with my Return

We can not see Personal Identification Information in the public forum.  If you are having issues entering your 1095-A, you can follow these steps:

Here's how to enter your 1095-A in TurboTax:

  1. Open or continue your return
  2. Go to 1095-A
  3. Answer Yes on the screen. Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan? and select Continue
  4. Enter your 1095-A info on the next screen and select Continue
    • We don't need all the info from your 1095-A, so we'll only ask about the info that affects your return

For more information, see the link below:

Where do I enter my 1095-A?

Just an FYI:

You don't "attach" the 1095-A to your return. You enter data from your 1095-A one keystroke at a time, into the program where it asks you for it.

It would be best to follow the instructions here to give us a call by phone, so we can take a look to see why it is prompting you for the 1095-A. @Jayeleene
