My efile failed. needed an update, updated. Still fails. Still needs update, but no update. It says you've had a technical hiccup. When will you fix it?

Just FYI, still not resolved.  I tried to file today, followed the instructions to check updates, installed the update, and still can't file.  What a waste of time.  Now it's not even letting me go to the Check Updates, or even save my file.

You're posting in a cluttered thread with multiple users.   I assume you are using the desktop product (CD/download).  Is it for Windows for Mac?   And what OS version?

Is it a problem with a state program update?

Is this your issue (Windows version):

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-topics/help/state-loop-indicates-turbotax-is-up-to-date-after-...

Or this (Windows version) for New York or Massachusetts?
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-topics/help/there-is-an-update-available-for-your-version-of-t...

If you're using Windows, try running TurboTax as an administrator.  Here's how:   If Windows 10, right-click on the TurboTax desktop icon and in the popup choose "Properties" then the Compatibility tab.  Then place a checkmark for "Run as administrator."

If that doesn't help, try a repair (Windows):

If you need to speak to TurboTax Customer Support, here's how.

Support hours are 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern), 7 days/week

You can use this contact form:

If it's a state update loop, some users have said it helped if Support pushed a separate download of the state program installation file.   So you can ask them for that, if that's your situation.

My email won’t update. Possible virus. Can you text code?

I paid for 1 free state e-file, but I'm being asked for credit card info before I can file

I recommend reviewing your fees first to see if you were charged or not.

You can see your fees by doing the following.  You will be able to see the amount due in this section.

  • Select Tax Tools in the black panel on the left
  • Select Tools
  • In the Tools Center box that pops up, select My Fees

If you determine you have already paid, you can contact us using the link below to discuss your account with an agent.

What product are you using?  If you are using desktop software (CD/download), there is a 24.99 fee to efile a state return (except no fee for New York return).    The state efiling fee increased from 19.99 last winter.   There is no fee to print and mail the state return.

If your desktop product included a state program download, that feature is for the program to prepare the state return.   It does not include  state efiling, which is extra as I mentioned.

It depends based on what program is being used. For Mac users, you would simply quit and reopen the program to check for updates. Otherwise, the TurboTax menu is referring to the menu bar at the very top of the program beginning with File.

For TurboTax CD/Download, see:

Why does TurboTax for Mac keep saying there are updates when I check for updates?

Can you please clarify your question? You may be able to enter the information, instead. Typically, state identification is optional when e-filing for the IRS.

@sam2022

You may need to manually update your software which will allow you to proceed.  To do this for Windows, please see the Help Article here.  For Mac, you will need to remove and reinstall.  To do this, please see this Help Article for instructions.

My e-file was filing w. Technical Hiccup - Cancelled.

I checked for update.  Found and installed it.

Then first only submitted Federal return - went thru.

Then submitted State return - went thru.
