Just bought TT Premier, only to find that the 2 areas most important to me are the only parts of TT not yet available: Investment income and Retirement Plans & Social Sec income. How about posting last year's program and labelling it "needs update"?

That way, I'd at least be able to start on my taxes and get a better idea now of my final tax liability before the end of the year.  PLEASE HELP.  When will these income categories be available?

It's early at this point. The IRS is not even accepting 2023 returns until January 23rd.

Even the IRS and the states do not have their forms ready.  Sorry.   Patience is needed.   You cannot use TurboTax online at this time since the 2022 software is closed and the new 2023 software is not yet available online.   The CD/download is available but will require a number of updates.   If you cannot get the information you need from the 2023 CD/download---do you have the 2022 download?   Try using that for a "dummy" return.  It also has a "what if" feature that might help you.   Or try the TaxCaster tool.

Tks for the response and suggestions.  Have already done dummy returns in 2022 for 2023 and using Excel.  But now need real data (not just estimates) to make charitable contributions and est tax payments by end of year.   Will the two sections needing updates be done by mid-Dec?   (Even with further updates later would be fine).

When you used 2022 for test returns did you use the What-If worksheet?  There is a button to use 2023 tax rates.   I use it to figure my estimates.  I think it works good.  Even used it to figure my 2024 tax since my husband died in 2023 and I will be filing Single for 2024 (that we file in 2025).

To find What-If worksheet.    Go to Forms Mode, click Forms in the upper right or on the left for Mac. Then click Open Forms box in the top of the column on the left. Open the US listing of forms and towards the bottom find the What-if worksheet. It's right under Estimated Taxes.

Or try…Go into Forms View. Once there, at the top of the left column, click on the icon for "Open Form". A popup window will appear. In the text line, type the word "what" without quotes. You should see "what-if worksheet" appear as a selection choice. Double-click it to launch the form.

Thx.  So presumably no idea yet from TT on when the updates for the two sections will be available?  (Investment income and Retirement Plans & Social Sec income.)

Appreciate the helpful suggestions.    Have a good weekend.

You can click on Forms.  When in Forms mode click on Open Form.  Then enter 1099-R for retirement income.  Enter your tax data on the 1099-R.  It will populate the Form 1040.

Also, go to this TurboTax website for the availability of the federal tax forms and schedules - https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product...

Thk you; perfect.  Why didn't I think of that?  I'll let you know if that doesn't work, but I'm pretty sure it will.  Have a good weekend.

@stephenrkg  go into Forms View - the forms are there  and you can populate the required line items (just don't attempt to do an override which should not be necessarily in any event)-

it is just the step x step process hat won't work .

The IRS has to  approve of any software updates before they are included in TurboTax.  That does not happen until about mid January.  They consider what laws have changed and make sure that the software is using the correct rules for the current year.   What gets released in November is just something to help get started but TurboTax is really not very functional until mid to late January.

The programmers review all changes in the laws.  They write new code.  They send that code to the IRS and get it approved, then it is put into an update.

Thanks for posting the question.  Was this feature value added?  I am not pulling Soc Security yet, but are the tax tips helpfu?

Must be because I've moved well beyond that and hardly remember it.  In fact, I'm done with taxes now and just waiting for the final 1099s and 1098s before filing.   Let me know if you're looking for anything specific.

Hi, was the features you mentioned in this original question available and value added? Are all transactions downloaded from your brokerage or just the IRS form itself?

Hi, SueN24.  Don't have a brokerage and don't use Intuit.  So I have no idea about how well any of that works. // If I understand your question correctly, no the features were not yet available in mid-Nov, but they certainly are now.  But again, those questions were so long ago and so overtaken by events that I don't remember it all that well.
