Box 7 is not a checkmark. There is a little IRA checkmark box between boxes 7 & 8. Code 7 just mean a normal distribution (as in non-disability) I think code 2 is for early distribution. People sometimes think the 7 in box 7 is the box number but it is also the CODE.
And not 59 1/2 means you are not UNDER 59 1/2. Right you are 62. So you use Code 7 for a normal distribution not an early distribution. What code is in box 7? Should be a 7 (same as the box #)
A 7 was in the box. This is such an important box, I wouldn't think there is a programming error. Can you see if the tax return has been submitted. I have since this process began, completed my return using FreeTaxUSA.
Did you enter the code 7? Or do you need to fix your return?
For Online, Did you go all the way through the File tab, through the 3 steps and hit the big orange Transmit Returns Now button?
You can double check your efile status here
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile.
When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. what does it say?
After talking with TT, we realize that the error for MY distribution is that I am age 62 and my husband - who is entered first in TT - is age 56. What is happening is that even though I say the 1099R is "mine", TT is acting as if it is for my husband and trying to add a 10% early withdrawal. But since it's mine, it should not be. TT is looking into this.
It looks like something is mislabeled.
My income tax deducted on my T4A(P) does not transfer to line 43700.
It appears that information at the top of one page contradicts information on the bottom of the same page.
Was computing taxes for my 2020 federal. I receive a 1099 NEC for a small payment for work I do associated with my job. Since it's from an exterior party this is how they choose to pay me. I do not have any business expenses and don't consider myself self employed so I entered this into the deluxe version under income (has a place for 1099 NEC). Anyway, unless the payment is in box 3 (which mine isn't) the 1099NEC requires that the payee pay self employment tax (social security isn't deducted) The program does not do this. Instead it simply adds it to your income without computing this tax on the necessary worksheets. The end result is that the taxes are computed wrong.
I would argue that unless someone has business expenses, that turbotax should be equipped to calculate their taxes due in the deluxe model. The business edition has way more resources than necessary and completing the self employment tax worksheets when no business expenses exist is a simple tax.
Outside of that, turbotax gave no notification that the taxes were computer wrong, that self employment tax was due, and it failed to flag my taxes for an error even though there was one. I'm fairly positive this has impacted other people in my position without their knowledge and resulted in improperly calculated taxes due. The error needs fixed.
On a side note, I was told to download the business edition, which I did. If you enter the income in the business section it works correctly, entered into personal income, it does not. Again this is an error. And again I would argue that the deluxe vs. should compute the proper tax for individuals who are not truly self employed and have no business expenses. I would like a refund on my upgrade, and for the deluxe version to calculate properly. At the absolute least, the flaw in the programming that allows the tax to be computed incorrectly needs repaired.
When you say you downloaded the Business program do you mean Home & Business personal program or the separate Business program? The Business program only does Partnership, LLC, Corp. and Estate/Trust returns.
Yes you can enter 1099NEC self employment income into Deluxe and get Schedule C to pay the SE tax. Deluxe should work like the Home & Business version. Actually all the Desktop programs have the same forms. Did use the Desktop Deluxe or the Online web Deluxe?
You can try asking for a refund.

What is the Turbo Tax phone number

Yes, Home and Business. The issue is that the deluxe program didn't generate those forms, it didn't fill out schedule C, or schedule SE as it should have. This left my taxes incomplete as I never reported self employment tax due. That is where the error is. Once it's fixed I'll request the refund for home and business as I shouldn't need it. The funny thing is when you enter the 1099 NEC into the business side instead of the personal side it does generate the proper forms. Entered into the personal side it does not. I should be able to do either.
Oh, and forgot to mention that I have the desktop deluxe version.
Looking for validation that you understand the issue I am presenting. Entering a 1099 NEC in personal income yields an incorrect total tax amount because it fails to compute schedule SE taxes due and leaves out the schedule se as well as schedule C forms entirely. It subsequently gives no notification of this and I almost submitted my taxes with this error intact. Should I expect this issue will be repaired in the deluxe version?
