I need to change my filing status to head of household instead of single. Girlfriend accidentally selected the incorrect option. Would this disqualify me for a stimulus?

Do you have a qualifying dependent in order to file as Head of Household?  What do you mean by "Girlfriend accidentally selected the incorrect option. Would this disqualify me for a stimulus?"

Did your GF already prepare your tax return and e-file it?  Or did your GF claim you as a dependent---please explain.

Am I Head of Household?

If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your filing status (single or married filing separately) into MyInfo, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.

Do you have a closely related dependent (or a child) that lives with you and you support that qualify you for HOH?

If you filed, it is like dropping it into the mail - you cannot get it back if accepted by the IRS or state.

To amend your 2019 tax return:

-- First, *wait* to see if your return has been accepted or rejected by the IRS or state. DO NOT do anything until you receive the accept or reject e-mail.

-- If rejected, you can correct and re-send your return.

-- If accepted you should *wait* until your return has been processed and you receive your refund or conformation that any tax due has been paid. (If you file an amended return while you first return is being processed it can cause extended delays for both returns if two returns are in the system at the same time). In addition, if the IRS makes any change on your original return, you might end up having to amend the amendment – a sticky process that can take a year or more).

-- Then you can start the amend process.

It is suggested that it be mailed certified with return receipt (or other tracking service) to verify that the IRS receives it. That is the only proof of mailing that the IRS will accept.

-- Amended returns can only be mailed - allow 8-12 weeks - can take up to 16 weeks (4 months) for processing.

***************************************NOTE***********************************************
Amended returns can take up to 16 weeks (4 months) to process in normal times but due the the Corona virus shutdown the IRS is not even opening mailed returns at this time and just storing them so the 16 weeks will not even start until the IRS returns to normal - whenever that will be - and there will be a huge backup of mail.

See this TurboTax FAQ for help with amending:

You can check the status of your amended return here but allow 3 weeks after filing for it to show up:

I don’t kno much how the process worx but I had seen online that one of the requirements to receive a stimulus check was the status filed had to be under head of household. My ex gf selected me as single in the very first question HOH, defendant, single, etc. Also I called the IRS office today and gave them my name, SSN, DOB, and the lady told me they had no record or case with my info. She told me to call turbo tax and to tell them to release my paperwork (taxes) to the IRS. I had completed them online and sent in around the first week of March. And I haven’t heard or received anything from the government or irs. I tried to check on my stimulus and one requirement was to be filed my status as HOH. Where am I misunderstanding, confused, missed it, and blind? Please help.  And thank you for ur time and patience.

There is no such requirement to file HOH.   You just cannot be a dependent yourself.

What do you mean "sent them in"?    Did you e-file or mail file?

If you e-filed the  what is your filing status?   Was it accepted?

You can check your TurboTax filing status here:
