I cannot select step 3 on the filing page

On the last step of filing taxes, step 1 is view/print receipt, step 2 is to input bank information and how to pay federal and state taxes but it never shows a start button for step 3. Once I complete step 2 it still shows start. I have completed step 2 many times and it never shows a start button for step 3. I am using the free edition and have in the past and it never did this before. It never says if anything is incomplete or why it wont allow me to file. I cant file my taxes if I cant select step 3 and there is zero support information on what is going wrong. I called the number for contact us and it only has 3 selections, none of which pertain to a technical issue. I am out of work and cannot afford to pay 50 bucks to find out why the website is broken.

I cannot select step 3 on the filing page

You cannot file until all of your forms are ready--and many are not ready since it is so early.  Click Review to see what you are waiting for.  No hurry to file since the IRS will not be accepting returns until the end of January.  Filing early will not result in an early refund.

When I select review it shows everything is ok then sends me over to the file section.

 

I live in Indiana but worked in Kentucky last year and both states have a reciprocal tax agreement. However, the accountant at my prior place of employment didnt know how to file those forms (even though both Kentucky and Indiana have forms to submit) so she only paid tax to Kentucky which took me several months last year to get back in a full refund which I then have to pay to Indiana. I was hoping on getting a head start to get this taken care of so as to not get any late penalty this year.

 

I should have walked out the first day I worked there when she refused to accept the reciprocal form.

Again I would try again later in a couple of weeks when the IRS opens the tax season for efiling and see if everything can be sent then ... sending now does NOTHING for you except put you into a holding pattern waiting for the fed & states to start processing returns.  Filing this early is very risky at best especially with all the form/tax law changes that will inevitably cause glitches again this year ... be safe and wait.
