The purchase price of the TurboTax desktop edition includes one free state program download.  That does not mean you receive one free state tax return e-file.

The current state e-file charge is $25.  This charge can be avoided by printing and mailing the state return.

Your software included the program to PREPARE a state return.   E-filing that state return is an extra fee.  You can avoid the state e-file fee if you print and mail the state.   Then you only need an envelope and a stamp.

According to the software, the fee to upload a state return is $20.  I just confirmed that with TurboTax.  Have no idea what the $25 fee is, and they can't tell me.  I plan to dispute with my credit card if I can't get an answer.

The current e-file fee for a state tax return using the desktop editions is $25.  Prior to March 1 the e-file was $20.

Go to this TurboTax website for the desktop CD/Download editions and click on the link 1 state download.  State e-file additional directly below the price shown for the edition.  Scroll down the pop-up window and the fee will be shown as $25 E-file your state returns for only $25 per state return

The price always goes up to $25 on March 1.  The early prices expire and increase to full price.  Same with all the Online versions and buying the Desktop program.

You would think they would fix that with all their software updates.  Software still shows the fee as $20 and that was what the TurboTax representative confirmed.

I am using the TurboTax Premier edition for Windows and in the File section of the program it shows the e-file fee for the state tax return as $25.

Windows Version 021.000.0568

I believe your advertising and packaging are misleading.  You should either charge an extra $25 for the premier program or not make it appear you are getting a free state tax return.

I bought TT Premier and they charged me again for the state download.

How much?  There is a $25 fee to efile a state return from the Desktop program.

That should not happen, but you are only allowed one state download per TT program purchased.  If you downloaded one by mistake, it will likely charge you if you want another state program download.  I think the stae efile should be free, but its not.  The TT program is now so bloated, and more a black box.

  • I did all that you suggested upfront. I've have no income whatsoever in another state.  I should not have paid an additional fee.  I don't know what's going on, but it is not right.

The e-file fee is separate than the fee to purchase the state software. If you need to speak with a specialist, you can follow the instructions here to contact us by phone. @George42

If that's true you should say that upfront and maybe allow payment upfront.  If you look at my account it seems to nickel and dime me all through the process.  I don't need a specialist but thanks for response.
