FAFSA wants income tax amount. It directs you to subtract line 13 from 46.
What tax year is FAFSA referring to and what form is FAFSA referring to? Subtracting Line 13 from Line 46 does not make any sense for a 2018 tax return or for a 2017 tax return.
The OP appears to be referring to this instruction: "
U.S. Income Tax Paid | 2018 IRS Form 1040 Line 13 minus Line 46 of Schedule 2 (Form 1040) |
" See
@madriz69, the reference to "Form 1040 Line 13" is to https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf and the reference to "Line 46 of Schedule 2 (Form 1040)" is actually to a different form - see https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040s2.pdf
So if you don't have a schedule 2 there is nothing to subtract.
me and my wife did joint filling 2018, and she is applying for fafsa today and this question came up for her, i tried to find but can't see where is this schedule 2,my return doesn’t have schedule 2 line 46 can anyone help on this what to do?
The tax return forms for 2018 have a Form 1040 and six possible schedules. Some people do not need ANY of those six schedules, and some people need only one or maybe a few of them. If you do not have a schedule 2 it is because your tax situation did not require it. What EXACTLY are you trying to find on that schedule?
Here is what schedule 2 looks like:

My wife is trying to apply for a https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa fafsa student aid, in that while filling online ,theres a questions saying
Enter the amount of your(and your spouse's) income tax of 2018.This is the total amount of IRS Form 1040
line 13 minus schedule 2-line 46
so we are not sure what to enter

Schedule 2, line 46 is the "Excess advance premium tax credit from form 8962" (Heath care credit). If yiu do not have any such credit and no schedule 2, then that amount would be zero so the answer is line 13 minus zero is line 13.
I do not have my schedule 2. To complete paperwork for FASFA for my daughter. How can I get it.
2018 year
@Jwesnoski It is always fun to try and guess what people want when they post little one or two word stuff.

For Fafsa.....If you don't have schedule 2 there is nothing to subtract from line 13.
what if line 13 on my tax form is blank ?
