How to report fraud?

Yes when I checked the activity on my account, there’s a iPhone coming out of Rhode Island in Boston and I live in Maine. It looks very odd. I have never been to Rhode Island not this year or Boston.

I was incarcerated from 2018, too 2020. I got one stemulis check and income tax credit in 2021. Then in 2022 I was gincarcerated again until January of 2024.  I want to file fraud on who ever filed and received my taxe return money and my stemulus checks.  Nothing got deposited in my account. And I just was able to see history of tax return amounts that k never got including my stimulus check.  I need something

Do you know if the fraudulent tax return was prepared in TurboTax? TurboTax takes the security of your data very seriously.

@ibhoppin    Were the fees supposed to come out of your refund?

If the IRS is taking too long to send your refund they will ask you to pay the fees, see step 3 under What happens if the IRS reduces my refund......

If you don't pay they will automatically debit your bank account. Then when the IRS does send your refund they won't take the fees out again. See How do you justify debiting my account?

When I tried to download  turbotax in february 2025 something called TaxAct took over my  computer and started collecting information.   I thought it was part of  Turbotax and filled in information, including credit card info.  When I realized it was not Turbotax I shut it down and found the real Turbotax.  I  loaded it and completed my 2024 tax.   Recently I noticed that this TaxAct was charging $55 each month on my Mastercard. 

Mastercard gave me a new card, and gave me conditional credits for the charges.  Then they made an investigation of some sort. They concluded that TaxAct had  provided the "services and merchandise" and they had to cancel the conditional credits.  Their investigation must have consisted of asking TaxAct if they were guilty.

 I would like to know if other Turbotax  users have been scammed by TaxAct.  I have loaded Turbotax  for many  years with the  CD  provided in the package.  2024 was the first year that the CD was not available, and I was downloading from the internet for the first time.   That made me vulnerable to their intrusion on the download process.

@user17648734969 Luckily for you ---the filter removed the personal information you posted here---you could have made yourself vulnerable to even more identity theft or scams by posting your email and phone number.

NEVER post your personal information here in the user forum.   This is a public website visible to anyone on the TT site--including scammers and would-be identity thieves who would love to contact you and pretend to be from TurboTax.

We have seen no other reports of "Tax Act" withdrawals from user accounts.   It sounds like you stumbled into something on the internet that you will have to sort out with your credit card.
