How do I enter the LICENSE CODE from a CD that was purchased

I cannot activate my product. The pop up screen for the activation came up bank except for the blue dot

Are you using Windows?

If so, a blank or partially-blank activation screen may be related to either a screen resolution or scaling problem in your Windows settings.

 

In Windows 10 to get to the scaling or resolution settings click the Windows start button in lower left corner, then choose Settings (gear icon), then System, then Display.

 

First try the scaling setting.  In your Windows Settings do you have scaling set to a higher value than the normal 100%?  If so, change it back to 100%. Once the license code is entered and activated, you can later change your scaling setting back like it was.

 

If lowering the scaling to 100% didn't help, then it may be screen resolution.  Try a lower screen resolution such as 800x600.   If that doesn't work, then try 1024x768.   Once you get the license activated, you can revert your resolution setting back like it was.

 

NOTE:  If you happen to encounter a blank popup screen later on in some section of the program, you may have to temporarily perform this maneuver again.

Another user posted this fix.  See if it works for you -

 

  • change your resolution to 800 x 600 (start>setting >system resolution. once it's been changed, your screen size will look very big. REMEMBER your initial resolution setting!
  • launch TT and the activation screen should launch.  copy / paste in your activation code. you should get the 'all set' green check mark
  • change your resolution back to what is was originally.

What's your story?   Did you purchase a CD somewhere but want to download an installation file instead?

WE HAVE THE LICENSE CODE, INSERTED THE CD, NOTHING POPPED UP ON OUR COMPUTER TO PUT IN THE CODE

You don't enter the 16 digit License Code until after the program is installed.  Then when it launches it will ask for the Code.

 

Do you have Windows 10? If you have Windows 10 and the CD won't load see

Do other CDs work in the drive?  If the CD doesn't work you can download the program instead.

There should be a card in the CD case that says how to download it and you will need the 14 or 16 digit code from it to enter.

What Windows version--Windows 10 or 8/8.1?  You would need to describe your issue in full for anyone to make a suggestion.   What and where is the roadblock?    Does the CD not spin, or does it spin, but doesn't start the installation program?   Or does installation start for a while then reaches some roadblock?    If it begins the installation, does it get as far as the activation screen, and if so, is the activation not appearing, or is blank or partially blank?   If it's a blank activation screen problem, we can likely tell you a quick way to fix it.

 

The CD is a very early release, probably release 1.   Here's how to get a downloaded installation file to use instead of the CD, if you wish.   It may have less installation problems, since it is a much more current release.  It, too, can produce at times a blank activation screen for some users, but we can tell you how to fix that.

We don't know the context of your question.  Are you wanting to install the program from the CD?   If so, it will ask for the license code at the end of installation, or are you having a problem when you reach the license activation screen?

I don't know what all was thrown away with the box.  Does that mean she threw away the inserts that were inside with the license code?    Did she also throw away the actual CD?

 

If you still have the CD, I think TurboTax Support can verify it from the numbers on the CD.   If you still have a receipt, also have it handy when you talk to them.    You're going to have to talk to them in any case to see what they can do for you.
